Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Pittsburgh Pirates vs St. Louis Cardinals

The Cards will matchup against the Pirates once again, these two teams just played a few days ago, the Cardinals came up on top with a 2-1 series victory over the Pirates. The Pirates will look to end their winning streak on the road against the Cards.

Pittsburgh Pirates's Latest Performance :

The Pirates are now on a four-game losing streak losing 9 of their last 11 as they gave up 5 runs to the Cubs in the 7th and 8th innings as the bullpen gave up an early three-run lead costing them the game.  The Pirates are now sitting in fourth place of the NL Central division with a record of 28-26, they haven’t been great on the road this season they are 12-13 when playing on the road this season. Coming into this series the Pirates are 17th in pitching with a 4.20 ERA on the season.

Starling Marte went 3-for-5 with 3 RBIs he was the only bright spot in the Pirates offense, he did all he could to secure the win at home for the Pirates but if the team’s bullpen is giving up runs late it will be extremely hard to have an impact on the game. In baseball to get the job done, you will need a collaborative effort from the pitcher and batter. He has a .309/.361/.514 slash line with 23 RBI, 32 runs and 10 stolen bases. He has stolen 30 or more bases four times in his career and is a good bet to do it again this year.

Pitching for the Pirates will be Jameson Taillon. He has struggled in his past two starts, surrendering nine earned runs on 13 hits over 12 1/3 innings. The right-hander has a career 4.45 ERA over six starts against the Cardinals.

St. Louis Cardinals's Latest Performance :

The Cardinals will be back at Busch Stadium for a 7 game homestand beginning Friday. The homestand opens with a four-game series against the Pirates. The Cardinals are now sitting in third place of the NL Central division with a record of 29-23, they are a solid team at home with a record of 15-11. Coming into this series the Cards are 7th best in pitching with a 3.52 ERA on the season, they are only one game behind the Cubs for the second spot in the division. Wacha continues to be hot for the Cardinals he didn’t allow a hit until the fifth or a run until the seventh this is what great pitchers does for a team they put you in a great position to win.

Francisco Pena went 3-for-4 with a solo homer and a pair of runs scored, it was his 2nd homer of the season. He has done an excellent job filling in for the injured Yadier Molina. His line is .266/.294/.391 with an RBI this season. He hopes to build on this hitting performance when the Cards host the Pirates.

Matt Carpenter scored another homer making it his 7th of the year as he also reached the base 3 times after being walked twice in the game. He walked to lead off the game and then walked again with the bases loaded to force in a run in the second inning. His third trip to the plate resulted in his third home run over his last four games. He is slashing .223/.338/.44o with 21 RBIs on the season.

Pitching for the Cards will be Miles Mikolas allowed four runs over six innings Sunday in a no-decision against the Pirates. Mikolas yielded allowed hits and a walk while striking out five. has been one of the biggest and, for the Cardinals, most pleasant surprises through the season’s first two months, posting a 2.58 ERA and 0.98 WHIP across 66 1/3 innings of work.

How Pittsburgh Pirates & St. Louis Cardinals Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Cardinals are 7-2 in their last 9 home games vs. a team with a winning record.

Pirates are 16-35 in their last 51 road games vs. a team with a winning record.

Against The Spread Selection: St. Louis Cardinals

My reason for the pick :

Mikolas will come through for the Cards in the second game as he will put up a masterful pitching performance against the Pirates at home. He will outpitch Taillon as the Cards will be able to win this second game with ease. The Pirates will keep dropping down the standings as their pitching has really become a major issue this season if they don’t improve their pitching soon their hot start to the season will become a waste.

Betting trends for Pittsburgh Pirates:

  • Pirates are 16-37 in their last 53 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.

Betting trends for St. Louis Cardinals:

  • Cardinals are 6-2 in their last 8 vs. National League Central.
