Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Chicago Cubs vs New York Mets

The Mets will welcome the Cubs to Citi Field as the two teams will go head to head in a four-game series. The Mets are 4th in the NL East while the Cubs are 2nd in the NL Central. This will be the first meeting between the two teams this season.

Chicago Cubs's Latest Performance :

The Cubs are coming off a series win over the Pirates despite losing in the rubber game, they will be capping off their 7 game road trip by going up against the Mets in a four-game series. The Cubs are 14-12 when playing on the road this season. With that series win over the Pirates, the Cubs are now in 2nd place of the NL Central division with a record of 29-13. Coming into this series the Cubs are 3rd best in pitching with a 3.34 ERA.

Javier Baez went 2-for-5 and drove in a run. He singled to right to drive in Albert Almora in the first inning, although that turned out to be the Cubs’ only run of the night.  He is having a standout season, slashing .271/.301/.563 with 13 homers, 43 RBI, and 32 runs. He’s also stolen seven bases. His RBI count leads the National League in a tie with Eugenio Suarez of the Reds. I expect him to the catalyst on offense for the Cubs when they play the Mets on the road.

Pitching for the Cubs will be Mike Montgomery. He pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings Monday in the Cubs’ 7-0 victory over the Pirates. He is filling in for the injured Yu Darvish. He is making his first start of the year, he retired the first 13 batters he faced.

New York Mets's Latest Performance :

The Mets are coming off a series split against the Braves, they are now coming back home to host a 9 game homestand. The Mets are not doing so well this season when playing at home they are 12-13 on the season. The Mets are ranked 18th in pitching with a 4.17 ERA on the season. Although they are having a tough time generating runs this season they are ranked 24th in scoring with 224 runs scored this season. With the rubber game win against the Braves, they now have a record of 27-26 as the Braves drop to second in the division. Jason Vargas came through for the Mets in the rubber game he allowed only 2 hits with 5 shutout frames.

Adrian Gonzalez went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs. He struck a ground-rule double that plated Jay Bruce in the fourth inning, then added an RBI-single to score Jose Bautista with an insurance run in the eighth. His line on the year is .262/.329/.418 with 6 homers and 24 RBIs. The Mets are in need of offense as they have been really struggling lately when it comes to putting runs on the board, the task won’t get much easier for them as they get ready to host the Cubs. The Mets will be hoping that newly signed Jose Bautista will be able to provide the offensive spark that they need during this homestand.

Pitching for the Mets will be Jacob deGrom. He pitched out seven innings allowing only 1 run that ended in a no-decision. He is without a loss after 11 starts this season because of the Mets’ pen, he remains stuck on four wins. He will try to do his best at home to avoid his first loss of the season against the Cubs.

How Chicago Cubs & New York Mets Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Mets are 4-0 in their last 4 home games vs. a team with a winning record.

Cubs are 5-2 in their last 7 vs. National League East.

Against The Spread Selection: Chicago Cubs

My reason for the pick :

The Chicago Cubs should be able to beat the Mets on the road as the Cubs will remind us all to why they are the 3rd best pitching team in the Major. The Cubs will improve their road record to 15-12 as the Mets continue to struggle to win at home. With the way the Cubs are pitching right now, they can do some real damage to teams in the future and potentially become the team to watch this season.

Betting trends for Chicago Cubs:

  • Cubs are 4-1 in their last 5 road games vs. a team with a losing home record.

Betting trends for New York Mets:

  • Mets are 4-0 in their last 4 home games vs. a team with a winning road record.
