Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Oakland Athletics vs Kansas City Royals

The Royals will welcome the A’s to Kauffman Stadium as the two teams will go head to head in a 3 game series. The A’s are hoping to end their losing streak on the road after strings of bad performances at home. The Royals are in the 4th place of the AL Central division while the A’s are in the 4th place of the AL West. This will be the first meeting between the two teams this season.

Oakland Athletics's Latest Performance :

The A’s are coming off a series loss against the Rays, the Rays are currently on a 3 game losing streak and two out of the three games have been shutout losses. With the 3 games dropped the A’s now have a .500 record. They have not scored more than four runs in 14 straight home games. The silver lining is that they will have the opportunity to play on the road against the Royals in a 3 game series, a great match for the A’s to bounce back after a bad series against the Rays putting up only 3 runs during this losing streak. The A’s are 14-13 when playing on the road this season.

Jed Lowrie remains the only bright spot on the A’s offense. He has back-to-back multi-hit performances for the first time since a three-game run of two or more hits from May 2-4. He had been slumping hard recently, as his batting average slipped from .340 to .300 in a 13-game span from May 15-27. I expect him to play really well against the Royals on the road, all he needs is to play one great game and he will be able to rediscover his form that he had early on in the season. He is slashing .306/.369/.505 with 39 RBI with 24 extra-base hits.

Pitching for the A’s will be Trevor Cahill will take the mound against his former team for the first time since re-joining the A’s. The righty struggled in his brief stint with the Royals last season but has seen a resurgence with the A’s this season, recording a 1.73 ERA in May.

Kansas City Royals's Latest Performance :

The Royals are coming off an impressive series win over the Twins as they put up 11 runs in the rubber game. They are now 2-1 of their 6 game homestand as they will welcome the A’s to play in a 3 game series. The series win over the Twins didn’t really do much in the standings the Royals still remain in 4th place in the AL Central division with a record of 20-36, after a bad start to the year the Royals haven’t really recovered it seems like another season is going to be wasted. One of the main problems all year long for the Royals has been their pitching, they are ranked in the last place with an ERA of 5.26. It is hard for the Royals to win games if their starting pitchers aren’t performing. However, the Royals batting has been improving these last few games putting up 18 runs in 3 games ranking them 20th in the Major.

Mike Moustakas went 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBI. He did his damage early as the Royals piled on to starter Fernando Romero in the first two innings. The veteran third baseman knocked in two runs with a double in the first frame, then conked a two-run tater in the second. He will hope that he can replicate this hitting performance when the A’s visit. He is slashing .280/.331/.518 with 12 homers and 39 RBI in the first third of the season.

Pitching for the Royals will be Jason Hammel will take the mound for the Royals in Game 2 against the A’s. He is coming off a stellar performance on Sunday against the Rangers, going 5 1/3 innings with 10 strikeouts, the most strikeouts for any Royals pitcher since 2017.

Against The Spread Selection: Oakland Athletics

My reason for the pick :

The A’s will be able to end their losing streak on the road against the Royals as Cahill will pitch really well against his former team. It might not be a walk in the park victory but the A’s should be able to put up a win against the Royals. The Royals pitching will continue to struggle despite winning their last series. The A’s will have a winning record again after the victory on the road.

Betting trends for Oakland Athletics:

  • Athletics are 4-0 in their last 4 road games.

Betting trends for Kansas City Royals:

  • Royals are 9-20 in their last 29 home games.
