Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Boston Red Sox vs Houston Astros

The Astros will welcome back the Red Sox to Minute Maid for the rubber game. After a convincing series opener the Astros will be looking to close things out in the rubber game. The Red Sox are hoping that their batting will show up in this series after putting up only 2 runs in the opener.

Boston Red Sox's Latest Performance :

The Red Sox are still the best team in the Major despite dropping the opener, they are hoping to bounce back and figure out the Astros pitching. It is quite a challenge for the Red Sox because they are used to dominating teams left and right now they face the best pitching team in the Major, it is a tough matchup for them as well. The Red Sox are 19-10 on the road this season. They have scored 303 runs this season putting them on top of the Major when it comes to scoring. For the Red Sox to beat the World Champs they will have to score early and make them play from behind from the very beginning. In the opener, Pomeranz gave up 6 hits, 4 runs, 2 walks while striking out in 5 innings. The Red Sox were playing without Betts and Pedroia.

Xander Bogaerts drove in both Red Sox runs Thursday in a loss to the Astros. Bogaerts tied the game in the third inning by slugging a two-run double off Lance McCullers. That hit extended his hitting streak to four games.  He is on pace for 23 homers this season, he is doing a great job carrying this Red Sox team on his back with Betts being out injured, once Betts returns and Bogaerts is playing well these two will be unstoppable. He is slashing .281/.333/.519 with 8 homers and 30 RBIs.

Pitching for the Red Sox will be Rick Porcello. He walked two batters, hit two more and allowed three runs in 6 2/3 innings, though he struck out five. He prepares to face the Astros with a 5.01 ERA and 1.38 WHIP through his past seven games.

Houston Astros's Latest Performance :

The Astros are hoping they can build on their series opener win against the Red Sox, in the series opener the World Series Champion reminded us that they are the best pitching team in the Major for a reason as a team they have an ERA of 2.67. They have a record of 36-22 putting them on top of the AL West division. The World Series Champs responded well after falling to the Yankees in their previous series they will be looking to beat out the best team in the Major this season the Red Sox. Lance McCullers came through for the Astros in the opener as he tossed six solid innings of two-run ball. Great pitchers will lay the foundation to set up their team for a win and McCullers did just that in the opener.

Carlos Correa got his 9th homer against the Red Sox. He put Houston ahead by launching a two-run shot off Drew Pomeranz in the first inning. He was hitless in his other three plate appearances, though he did draw an intentional walk in the eighth. This was a needed bounce-back game for him, I expect him to play better as the series progresses. He is slashing .262/.347/.465 with 38 RBIs on the season.

Pitching for the Astros will be Charlie Morton. He struck out 10 batters in six innings Tuesday at Yankee Stadium, giving him four double-digit strikeout games this season. He had four of those in his entire career coming into 2017. Nine of his 11 starts have been quality. He owns a 2.26 ERA while striking out 85.

How Boston Red Sox & Houston Astros Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Astros are 9-4 in their last 13 when their opponent scores 2 runs or less in their previous game.

Red Sox are 20-7 in their last 27 road games vs. a right-handed starter.

Against The Spread Selection: Houston Astros

My reason for the pick :

The Houston Astros should be able to close off the Red Sox in the rubber game as Morton will put up a masterful pitching performance at home. The Red Sox are on the verge of getting swept by the World Series Champs, the Red Sox won’t be able to figure out a way around the Astros pitching and not having Betts on the plate really hurt them in this series, it shows you how valuable he is on the Red Sox team.

Betting trends for Boston Red Sox:

  • Red Sox are 7-3 in their last 10 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600.

Betting trends for Houston Astros:

  • Astros are 36-15 in their last 51 home games.
