Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Philadelphia Phillies vs San Francisco Giants
The Giants will welcome back the Phillies to AT&T Park to play in the rubber game as the two teams will conclude a 3 game series. The Giants are 4th in the NL West while the Phillies are 3rd in the NL East. This will be their 2nd meeting of the season, in the first meeting the Phillies ended up sweeping the Giants.
Philadelphia Phillies's Latest Performance :
The Phillies have now dropped into the 3rd place of the NL East division after splitting the series with the Dodgers. The Phillies now have a record of 31-23 on the season they are not a good road team this year going 12-14 on the season so far this season. Coming into this series the Phillies are 17th in batting with 238 runs scored this season but their pitching has been remarkable this season they are 4th best in the league with a 3.40 ERA. They have elite pitchers that can take over games singlehandedly they will be looking to bounce back against the Giants after the Dodgers series. Aaron Nola came through for them in his last start as he allowed two hits, one run, one walk and struck out seven in seven innings. He is definitely a top 10 pitcher in baseball.
Jorge Alfaro went 2-for-3 with an RBI double and an RBI single. He was able to get an RBI single off Kershaw in the second inning and another one in the seventh when he hit an RBI double to snap a 1-1 tie. He’s now posted two-hit efforts in three of his last four games with five doubles he is slashing .265/.315/.404. In addition, Alfaro has four home runs and driven in 13 runs in 42 games this season.
Pitching for the Phillies will be Jake Arrieta. He pitched seven scoreless innings Tuesday against the Dodgers to finish May with a 0.90 ERA. Arrieta might not be overpowering batters, but he is able to generate plenty of swings and misses. He hopes to keep it up against the Giants.
San Francisco Giants's Latest Performance :
The Giants are set to play the rubber game against the Phillies, the Giants are coming off a rubber game victory over the Rockies. They have been solid when playing at home this season they are 14-10 this season. The Giants have a record of 26-30 ranking them 3rd in the NL West division. Coming into this series they are ranked 23rd in scoring with 230 runs scored this season, not the best numbers after the hot start to the season for the Giants. The Giants finished the month of May going 11-16 but gained 1/2 games in the National Leauge, they trail the division-leading Rockies by four games as they will be welcoming back top players that are set to come back from injuries that include Bumgarner, Melancon, and Pence.
Gorkys Hernandez went 2-for-4 with a homer. He is going to be the Giants’ primary center fielder until he cools off. He’s hitting .321 with a .874 OPS. He ended May batting .300 after owning a .245 batting average. He has hit 6 home runs this season. I expect him to play well against the Phillies at home.
Buster Posey went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs. He got his first RBI when the base was loaded in the 4th inning. He plated a run in the eighth inning by singling to drive in Kelby Tomlinson. Posey has missed games of late as he nurses a tender hip. He has a .299 batting average with three home runs, 19 RBI and 22 runs scored in 167 at-bats on the season.
Pitching for the Giants will be Derek Holland. He surrendered four runs in five innings but still managed to snare a win against the Rockies at Coors Field on Wednesday. He is now 3-6 on the season with a 4.94 ERA and 1.32 WHIP after 11 starts in his first season in the National League.
How Philadelphia Phillies & San Francisco Giants Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Giants are 5-2 in their last 7 home games vs. a team with a losing road record.
Phillies are 6-2 in their last 8 vs. National League West.
Against The Spread Selection: Philadelphia Phillies
My reason for the pick :
Despite the Phillies having a bad road record this season, I think they are capable of pulling this game off against the Giants on the road with Arrieta controlling the mound for them. The Phillies can’t afford to drop any more games as they would like to stay within arms reach of the Braves and the Nationals. The Giants won’t be able to work around Arrieta pitches as they will lose yet another game at AT&T Park.
Betting trends for Philadelphia Phillies:
- Phillies are 17-44 in their last 61 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
Betting trends for San Francisco Giants:
