Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Atlanta Braves vs San Diego Padres

The Braves will hit the road as they will face the Padres at Petco Park in a three-game series. The Braves are first in the NL East division while the Padres are in the last place of the NL West. This will be their first meeting between the two teams this year.

Atlanta Braves 's Latest Performance :

The Braves are on the verge of a series win over the Nationals, they will begin their 6 game road trip as they will get ready to play the Padres in a 3 game series. The Braves still remain on top of the NL East with a record of 34-23 on the season. They have one of the best road records this season, the Braves are 19-12 when playing on the road this season. Mike Foltynewicz got his first career shutout game as he retired 26 of the final 28 batters and allowed just two hits and a walk. It was a crucial game for the Braves as they now 1/ 1/2 games in front of the Nationals.

Dansby Swanson went 1-for-3 and belted a three-run homer. The game was scoreless until the seventh inning when the Braves plated four runs off Stephen Strasburg. The shortstop was hot in April and ice cold in May, so maybe flipping the calendar to June is just what he needed. Overall he has a .263 batting average with four homers and 21 RBI in 42 games. I expect him to rediscover his form once again as the Braves are looking to pull away and take the crown in the NL East division. As the season progresses you tend to see other batters step up and fill for one another this is a sign of a great team in the making.

Pitching for the Braves will be Sean Newcomb. He has limited the Nationals to two runs over seven innings in a win Thursday. He kept the Nationals hitters off balance in allowing just four hits and a pair of walks. The win was his sixth in a row, improving him to 6-1 with a 2.73 ERA and 1.21 WHIP through 11 starts.

San Diego Padres's Latest Performance :

The Padres are coming off a loss against the Reds, they have a record of 25-34 putting them in the last place of the NL West. The Padres are 14-20 when playing at home this season. They will cap off their 10 game homestand with a three-game series against the Braves. Coming into this series the Padres are 18th in pitching with a 4.22 ERA. One of the main struggles for the Padres this year have been their ability to generate runs as they are ranked 26th in batting with 224 runs scored this season.

Freddy Galvis was the only bright spot on the team as he was able to score 2 RBIs as he went 1 of 3. The Padres are heading to rebuild, the Padres are unfortunate that they have to play in a tough division. With the Padres inability to score makes it even harder for them to win games. It will be a very long season for the Padres, in their last 3 games, they were only able to score 13 runs.

Pitching for the Padres will be Clayton Richard. The veteran left-hander has made six starts outside the division, including Wednesday’s strong showing vs. Miami. All of them have been quality, and he’s posted a 2.66 ERA in those outings compared with a 7.80 mark against the NL West.

How Atlanta Braves & San Diego Padres Matchup.

Braves are 4-1 in their last 5 after allowing 2 runs or less in their previous game.

Against The Spread Selection: Atlanta Braves

My reason for the pick :

The Braves should be able to come up with an easy win on the road against the Padres. It is hard not to bet against the Braves road record. Newcomb will win his 7 straight games as the Braves will take advantage of this easy matchup against the Padres. After seeing what they did to the Nationals, the Padres won’t be a problem for them at all. The Braves are no joke this season.

Betting trends for Atlanta Braves :

  • Braves are 9-4 in their last 13 when their opponent scores 2 runs or less in their previous game.

Betting trends for San Diego Padres:

  • Padres are 6-2 in their last 8 games following a loss.
