Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Arizona Diamondbacks vs San Francisco Giants

The Giants will welcome back the D-Backs to AT&T for game number 2. This will be a showdown between the two teams from the NL West division. The D-Backs leads the season series 2-0 over the Giants.

Arizona Diamondbacks's Latest Performance :

The D-Backs are on the verge of winning back to back series for the first time since April 30th. The D-Backs offense is starting to come alive again as they put up 36 runs through the first five games of the homestand. They are now climbing their way up the batting rankings they are now ranked 27th after being ranked 29th at the start of last week the D-Backs are now back on top of the NL West division with a record of 30-27 on the season.

David Peralta notched a 2 run homer and a walk across four plate appearances in his last outing. He has belted homers in consecutive games while posting at least one RBI in each of his past three outings. He is slashing .263/.332/.444 through 198 at-bats this season. I expect him to play well on the road as the D-Backs will look to remain on top of the division.

Paul Goldschmidt went 1 for 3 with a solo home run and two runs scored. He has been trying to improve his .212 batting average. He has raised his average from .198 to .212 just since May 22, and he has blasted three homers with seven RBI over the past eight outings. Paul is starting to hit again and once he gets going it a tough job for the opposing team to stop him.

Pitching for the D-Backs will be Patrick Corbin. He struck out 10 Reds in his last outing but also gave up six runs on eight hits. All of the runs were a homer. The last time he faced the Giants, he nearly threw a no-hitter, but Brandon Belt’s infield single in the eighth broke it up. He now owns a 2.99 ERA on the season.

San Francisco Giants's Latest Performance :

The Giants are on the verge of sweeping the Giants as they put up back to back shutout victories at home. The Giants are now two games behind the Rockies with a record of 28-30, the Giants still remain solid at home they are now 16-10 on the season winning three straight games. They will get ready to play the D-Backs in a 3 game series if the Giants continue to play well at home they have the opportunity to be on top of the NL West with a series win over the D-Backs that is how close this division is. Coming into this series the Giants are 22nd in pitching with a 4.45 ERA with two masterful pitching games expect the Giants to climb up the rankings.

Andrew McCutchen was able to add 2 RBIs in his last performance including a sacrifice fly in the 8th as he bought Panik home, that level play gave us a glimpse of how good McCutchen was. It doesn’t matter how you win as long as you win. He should play a key factor against the D-Backs at home.

Joe Panik went 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of runs scored. has a pair of multi-hit games as the leadoff hitter since coming off the 10-day disabled list. He has looked good since returning, showing no effects of the torn UCL in his thumb which forced him to the DL. The D-Backs will be his biggest challenge so far this season. He is slashing .289/.352/.412 with 6 RBIs and 3 homers with 25 games played this season.

Pitching for the Giants will be Derek Holland. He surrendered four runs in five innings but still managed to snare a win against the Rockies at Coors Field on Wednesday. Holland improves to 3-6 with a 4.94 ERA and 1.32 WHIP after 11 starts in his first season in the National League.

Against The Spread Selection: Arizona Diamondbacks

My reason for the pick :

The D-Backs to win game 2 on the road over the Giants as Corbin will put up another masterful pitching performance, he will hope that the D-Backs bullpen will come through for him after what happened the last time he started. Goldschmidt should have a great hitting game as he is starting to find his form again. Corbin will remind us again why the D-Backs are the 4th best pitching team in the Major.
