Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Kansas City Royals vs Los Angeles Angels

Game 2 of a 3-game set between the visiting Kansas City Royals and the Los Angeles Angels will take place at Angels Stadium in Los Angeles, California, on Tuesday night at 10:07 pm EST.  The Royals continue to have a rough go of it in 2018 and currently occupy the 4th place slot within the AL Central while the Angels have recently battled a losing skid, yet, looking to erect themselves in which to play more consistently both offensively and from the mound.  As a result, Los Angeles find themselves occupying the 3rd place position within the AL West division.  This will be the 2nd matchup of the season amongst these two squads with the Angels taking 3 of 4 at Angel Stadium on 4-14-2018 with the finale being postponed due to weather.

Kansas City Royals's Latest Performance :

The Royals come into this matchup winners of 3 their last 5 games to where the O/U was 3-1-1.  Recently, after winning a 3-game road set versus the St. Louis Cardinals on 5-23-2018, the Royals would go on to win a 4-game road set versus the Texas Rangers on 5-27-2018 with a 5-3 win in game 4.  The Royals would also go on to win a 3-game home set versus the Minnesota Twins on 5-30-2018.  Finally, KC is currently tied in a 3-game home set versus the Oakland A’s with a slim 5-4 win on 6-2-2018.

For the season, the Royals are averaging 4.05 runs per game (25th) with a team batting average of .257 (9th), 52 homers (27th), along with 27 stolen bases (17th).  Their pitching staff ranks at the bottom with an ERA of 5.42 (30th) with 421 strikeouts (29th) with 22 quality starts on the year (20th).

Mike Moustakas (.276 BA on 225 AB), Jorge Soler (.273 BA on 194 AB), and Whit Merrifield (.296 BA on 215 AB) have been solid thus far at the plate for Kansas City.  Jon Jay (.305 BA on 226 AB) and Lucas Duda (.256 BA on 133 AB) have also provided a small spark to the offense this season.

Jakob Junis (5-4) has been a bright spot for the Royal pitching staff this year going 67.1 innings this year while allowing 27 runs on 60 hits, 12 homers, 17 walks, and 62 strikeouts with an ERA of 3.61.  Ian Kennedy (1-6), Jason Hammel (2-5), and Danny Duffy (2-6) have combined for 195.5 innings while allowing 127 runs on 229 hits, 34 homers, 73 walks, and 157 strikeouts with a combined ERA of 5.32.

Los Angeles Angels's Latest Performance :

The Angels come into this game losers of 3 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 1-4.  Recently, the Angels would fall in a 3-game road set to the NY Yankees on 5-27-2018 while going on to play awful in a 4-game road set against the Detroit Tigers and would lose the series on 5-31-2018.  Their current series against the Texas Rangers was tied after the Rangers picked up a slim 3-2 win on Saturday 6-2-2018.

For the season, the Angels are averaging 4.59 runs per game (8th) with a team batting average of .248 (13th), 78 homers (4th) along with 33 stolen bases (11th).  Their pitching staff has an ERA of 3.70 (11th) with 541 strikeouts (6th) with 25 quality starts on the year (15th).

Andrelton Simmons (.336 BA on 211 AB), Mike Trout (.312 BA on 208 AB), and Albert Pujols (.251 BA on 219) have been the offensive leaders for the Angels offense this season.  Justin Upton (.234 BA on 218 AB) has also been very consistent contributor to the offense as el this season.

Tyler Skaggs (3-4) has pitched 60 innings while allowing 24 runs on 58 hits 8 homers, 19 walks, and 64 strikeouts with an ERA of 3.60.  Garrett Richards (4-4) has pitched 61 innings while allowing 33 runs on 46 hits, 7 homers, 29 walks, and 69 strikeouts with an ERA of 3.25.

How Kansas City Royals & Los Angeles Angels Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

For the season, the Royals are 25-33 while the O/U is 23-31-4.  On the other hand, the Angels are 28-31 while the O/U is 26-30-3.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

My, what a difference a couple weeks can make!  With the season the Angels were having earlier, there were not many who thought that they would burn out at this point in the season.  Nonetheless, they have lost 6 of their last 9 games and have not won a series since 5-24-2018 with a 3-game road series win over the struggling Toronto Blue Jays.  The Royals, on the other hand, have had a disastrous season, yet, are now winners of 7 of their last 11 contests and looking to build upon this momentum against a team that they have not been able to figure out in recent matchups.  Brad Keller (1-1) will come to the mound for the Royals in game 2 in his 2nd game as a starter this season.  This will be his 1st crack at the dangerous Angels’ lineup, however, for the season, the righty has pitched 25.1 innings with 16 strikeouts and 8 walks mostly in reliever status for the Royals.

Totals Selection: Under

My reason for the prediction :

For the Royals, the under is 6-4-2 in their last 12 games while for the Angels the under has been prevalent in 5 of their last 7 games.  Combine this with the fact that Keller has been solid on the mound where the under being the play in 8 of his last 10 appearances, I would certainly be eyeing the under in this instance.  Let’s face it, both teams continue to deal with inconsistencies at the plate these days, yet, I expect both teams to be locked in for Tuesday’s matchup, thus not allowing for many runs to be scored.  In all, the under will be my play in this matchup.
