Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Milwaukee Brewers vs Cleveland Indians

Game 1 of a 2-game set between the visiting and hot Milwaukee Brewers and the Cleveland Indians will take place at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio, on Tuesday night at 7:10 pm EST.  The Brewers have really played well lately to the point where they find themselves with a 6-game lead on the second-place team within the NL West (Chicago Cubs) while the Indians have also been on fire lately winning 6 of 7 to occupy the 1st place slot within the AL Central division.  This will be the 2nd meeting of the year amongst these two teams with both teams getting the split in a 2-game series at Miller Park on 5-9-2018.

Milwaukee Brewers's Latest Performance :

The Brewers have won 3 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 2-3.  Recently, the Brewers would display yet another solid performance in a 3-game home set versus the Arizona Diamondbacks to where they swept the series on 5-23-2018.  They would also win a 4-game set on the road at CitiField against the Mets on 5-27-2018.  In their next series against the St. Louis Cardinals, the Brewers would win game 3 by a slim 3-2 score to win another series, yet, in their current set, are tied with the Chicago White Sox with the finale being on Sunday, 6-3-2018.

For the season, the Brewers are averaging 4.29 runs per game (15th) with a team batting average of .248 (14th), 74 homers (5th), and 41 stolen bases on the year (4th).  Their pitching staff has an ERA of 3.47 (6th) with 501 strikeouts (13th), along with 16 quality starts (29th).

Lorenzo Cain (.277 BA on 202 AB), Ryan Braun (.232 BA on 151 AB), Travis Shaw (.252 BA on 206 AB), and Domingo Santana (.260 BA on 169 AB) have been the most consistent offensive weapons for the Brewers this season.

Jhoulys Chacin (4-1, 69 IP, 29 R, 59 H, 5 HR, 29 BB, 50 SO, 3.39 ERA) has been a bright spot for this Brewer pitching staff this season.

Cleveland Indians's Latest Performance :

The Cleveland Indians come into this matchup winners of 3 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 3-1-1.  Recently, the Indians would lose the first 2 games of a 4-game home set to the Houston Astros only to tie the series at its conclusion on 5-27-2018.  This momentum would translate into their following 3-game home set against the Chicago White Sox as they won the first 2 games of the series, with game 2 being a 7-3 victory on 5-29-2018.  The Indians are currently down 3-games-to-1 in their current road series versus the Twins with the finale being on 6-3-2018.

For the season, the Indians are averaging 5.02 runs per game (4th) with a team batting average of .255 (12th), 85 homers (3rd) along with 31 stolen bases (12th).  Their pitching staff has an ERA of 4.28 (21st) with 509 strikeouts (11th), along with 32 quality starts, good for 2nd in the MLB.

Jose Ramirez (.301 BA on 219 AB) and Francisco Lindor (.309 BA on 236 AB) have spearheaded the Indians offensive attack this season.  Yonder Alonso (.243 BA on 189 AB) and Edwin Encarnacion (.241 BA on 199 AB) have struggled a bit, yet, continue to be offensive leaders for the Indians.  Jason Kipnis (.196 BA on 219 AB) has also struggled thus far in the young season.

The Indians also possesses a host of solid pitchers such as Corey Kluber (8-2, 84.2 IP, 21 R, 61 H, 11 HR, 10 BB, 88 SO, 2.02 ERA) and Trevor Bauer (4-4, 78 IP, 31 R, 63 H, 5 HR, 28 BB, 97 SO, 2.77 ERA) have been the most consistent thus far.  Mike Clevenger (4-2, 72.1 IP, 25 R, 62 H, 4 HR, 23 BB, 61 SO, 3.14 ERA) and Carlos Carrasco (6-4, 76 IP, 39 R, 71 H, 11 HR, 19 BB, 73 SO, 4.50 ERA) have been very solid in their own right thus far in the season and are bright spots for Cleveland’s pitching staff.

How Milwaukee Brewers & Cleveland Indians Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

For the season, the Brewers are 35-24 ATS while the O/U is 23-34-2.  On the other hand, the Indians are 25-32 ATS while the O/U is 32-23-2.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

The Indians are 7-3 in their last 10 home games.  Combine this with the fact that they have erected themselves out of a rough patch to win 6 of their last 8 games, this game 1 matchup will certainly be an interesting and competitive series.  The Brewers continue to dazzle as they have won 9 of their last 12 games while looking to increase their confidence as the season wears on.  The pitchers for both teams have not been announced, however, I expect both teams to be locked in which to maintain their leader status in their respective divisions.

Totals Selection: Under

My reason for the prediction :

Being that this game will be one that is very competitive, I expect the under to be the play in this matchup on Tuesday.  Combine this with the fact that both pitching staffs have been solid all season, hits will certainly be at a minimum.  For the record, in their last 3 wins, opponents for the Brewers averaged 1.66 runs per game while in the Indians last 3 wins, their opponents averaged 4 runs.  In all, expect this to be a defensive struggle for 9 innings where the total will fall short of expectations.
