Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Seattle Mariners vs Houston Astros
The World Series Champion will be looking to take back their lead in the AL West division as they will be playing the Mariners in a short 2 games series. This will be their 2nd meeting of the season with the Astros holding the season series 1-0 over the Mariners.
Seattle Mariners's Latest Performance :
The Mariners are on a 3 game winning streak winning 12 of its last 15 games as they are now on top of the AL West division with a record of 36-22. They have recovered from the series loss against the Rangers by bouncing back and taking the series from the Rays. The challenge for Mariners is can they figure out the World Series Champion at home to remain on top of the division. They are hoping they can carry over the momentum from their 10 game homestand where they went 8-2. Coming into this series the Mariners are 14th in batting with 253 runs scored this season and 13th in pitching with a 3.87 ERA. Marco Gonzales continues to impress as he allowed just one earned run over 26 innings in his last four starts.
Kyle Seager went 1 f0r 4 picking up an RBI in his last outing, he will have to play well for the Mariners on the road against the Astros. The RBI against the Rays ended his 4 games RBI drought he will hope he can carry this batting performance over when they head to Minute Maid Park. He is slashing .226/.284/.413 with 33 RBIs with 9 homers on the season. The Mariners must be calm when playing against the World Series Champion on the road because the last time they played each other Mariners dropped 3 straight games after winning the series opener. The Mariners must believe that they are the best team in the AL West that’s how they are going to beat the Astros at home.
Pitching for the Mariners will be James Paxon. He just wrapped up a May in which he went 3-0 with a 1.67 ERA over six starts. He held Houston to three hits and a run over six innings in a 2-1 win in Seattle in April and is 4-3, 3.16 ERA in nine career starts vs. the Astros.
Houston Astros's Latest Performance :
The Astros will cap off their 6 game homestand by playing against the Mariners in a two-game series. The Astros weren’t able to win game three against the Red Sox, as a result, they are now 2nd of the AL West division with a record of 37-23 with the Mariners now half a game ahead of them. Playing the Mariners would be a great test for the World Champs because they will be able to find out how are they playing against a great team in the same division. The Astros still remain the best pitching team in the Major but their bullpen has to improve as the season goes on costing Verlander to settle for a no-decision. They are 18-12 when playing at home this season.
Alex Bregman went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run. He stepped up with a runner on and nobody out in the third inning and proceeded to uncoil for a two-run home run off David Price to snap a 1-1 tie. This performance gave Bregman both his first home run and first RBI since he went yard on May 24. He is slashing .260/.375/.425 with six home runs and 25 RBI in 58 games this season. The Offense has been great for the Astros as they are ranked 3rd in batting the only thing the World Champs have to figure out is ways to close out games. Yuli Gurriel is hitting an American League-best .436 with runners in scoring position he has now got 19 RBIs this season while slashing .292/.317/.376.
Pitching for the Astros will be Dallas Keuchel. He tossed 106 pitches in a five-plus-innings start against the Yankees, giving him his seventh loss of the year. Keuchel allowed two runs in eight innings vs. the Mariners on April 16. He will look to get back on track after the tough matchup against the Yankees.
