Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Kansas City Royals vs Los Angeles Angels

The Angels will be welcoming the Royals to Angel Stadium as the two teams will go head to head in a game 3 game series. The Angels are 3rd in the AL West while the Royals are 4th in the AL Central division. This will be their 2nd meeting of the season. In the first meeting the Angels ending up sweeping the Royals on the road.

Kansas City Royals's Latest Performance :

The Royals are coming off a series loss against the A’s where the team gave up 16 runs in the series opener, they will now go on a 7 game road trip. The Royals are 11-17 when playing on the road this season, they are not having the best season this year as they are ranked last in the Major when it comes to pitching with an ERA of 5.42 on the season. The Royals are now fully committed to going into rebuilding mode so expect a lot to happen in the next couple of days. It will be a very challenging task for this Royals to go up against the Angels considering how good of batting team they are with Trout leading the way.

Jon Jay has been a great addition to the team as he launches a solo homer tied the game at 1 in the bottom of the 3rd inning with his first homer of the year. It was his first homer since July 5 of last season. He is now slashing .304/.360/.374 with 17 RBIs on the year. The Royals are expecting Moustakas to play well on the road as he is the team leader in RBIs 39 on the season, he is slashing .271/.323/.498 with 12 homers on the year. The Royals bullpen must do a better job as they can’t afford to give up 4 runs in the 8th inning after starting pitcher Junis went for 9 strikeouts.

Pitching for the Royals will be Ian Kennedy. In his last outing, he gave up eight runs in three innings for the loss. He also allowed seven hits and two walks total and fanned three in the brief and brutal outing. He falls to 1-6 with a 6.08 ERA. The task doesn’t get any easier as he will be going up against the Angels.

Los Angeles Angels's Latest Performance :

The Angels are coming off a series win over the Rangers they were able to win in a shutout game in the series opener by putting up 6 runs. The Angels are not playing so well at home this season they are 14-18 but they will have a chance to make up some ground when they play the Royals who have been struggling with their pitches all season long. Coming into this series the Angels are 7th best in the league when it comes to batting with 274 runs scored this season and 10th in pitching with an ERA of 3.66. Tyler Skaggs was able to work out six scoreless innings in the rubber game.

Luis Valbuena continues to play well for the Angels as he went 1 for 3 and picked up two RBIs as he struck a double to drive in two pairs of runs. He has done a great job so far filling in Ohtani. If he keeps this batting numbers up against the Royals he was a great chance of earning more playing time. The batting lineup for the Angels is very deep as everyone will have to take advantage of the opportunity presented to them. He is slashing .242/.288/.383 with 6 homers and 20 RBIs this season. Justin Upton added a solo homer giving him 12 homers on the year.

Pitching for the Angels will be Shohei Ohtani. He will be making just his ninth career start when he takes the mound vs. the Royals. In his last start, Ohtani gave up one earned run over five innings vs. the Tigers, with three walks and five strikeouts. He is now 4-1 on the season with a quality 3.18 ERA in eight starts. He has 57 strikeouts and 17 walks in 45 1/3 innings.

Royals are 4-1 in their last 5 games following a loss.

Against The Spread Selection: Los Angeles Angels

My reason for the pick :

The Angels offense will turn up at home for the Angels as they will be able to pick up the win over the Royals at home. With the Royals are heading to rebuild the Angels will look to take full advantage of the opportunity to improve their home record. Ohtani will continue to impress on the mound I expect him to put up big numbers against the Royals at home.
