Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Miami Marlins vs St. Louis Cardinals
The Cards will welcome the Marlins to Busch Stadium as the two teams will go head to head in a 3 game series. The Cards are now 3rd in the NL Central while the Marlins are in the last place of the NL East division. This will be their first meeting between the two teams this season.
Miami Marlins's Latest Performance :
The Marlins will close out the 10 game road trip by going up against the Cardinals. The Marlins is 1-6 so far after losing to the D-Backs in a 3 game sweep. The Marlins now have a record of 20-39 on the season the worst record in the National League after dropping nine of 10 games. One of the main struggles for the Marlins this season has been their scoring they are ranked last in the Major with 196 runs scored this year and 29th in pitching with a 5.06 ERA. It won’t be an easy challenge for the Marlins playing a very strong home team like the Cardinals. The Marlins ownership will be looking at impactful players that can turn this franchise around.
Justin Bour was the only bright spot in the Marlins offense as he was able to pick up an RBI, he now has 25 RBIs on the year to go along with 10 homers. Unfortunately, he couldn’t turn things around after the team bullpen gave up a total of 5 runs in the 7th and 8th inning of play. It is hard for the batters to play well when the pitching on the team is very bad it is demoralizing for the batters because the numbers that they put up on the board won’t mean anything if they end up in the loss column. Bour slash line this season is .239/.369/.440. For the Marlins to even have a chance against the Cards JT Realmuto has to play well, he has hit a slump his last RBI scored was on May 29th he hoping to close out this road trip on a positive note. He is slashing .301/.359/.510 with 6 homers and 18 RBIs.
Pitching for the Marlins will be Wei Yin Chen. He gave up four runs on four hits over just 1 2/3 innings in Thursday’s loss to the Padres. He will be facing a tough task going up against the Cardinals.
St. Louis Cardinals's Latest Performance :
The Cardinals are coming off a series win against the Pirates as they will cap off their 7 game homestand by playing against the Marlins. The Cardinals are a very strong team when playing at home this season. They are 18-12 on the year. Coming into this series the Cards are 6th best in pitching with an ERA of 3.48. Wacha came through for the Cards in the rubber game as he struck out 8 with caused 12 groundballs out. He has not lost since the season’s opening week. He almost got a no-hitter but unfortunately, he gave up a hit in the 9th inning. The Cardinals pitching has been one of the main reason why they are playing so well at home they will hope to replicate that when the Marlins come to visit.
Marcell Ozuna hit a first-inning grand slam. He also was able to hit a homer in his previous outing as well. He looks to be settling into a groove offensively after struggling over his first two months with St. Louis. His swing looks so much simpler here in early June than it did a few weeks ago, and he’s showing far better patience at the plate. The 27-year-old outfielder is now slashing .272/.323/.374 with five home runs and 28 RBI in 53 total games this season, I expect him to carry over the momentum from the previous series into the Marlins series.
Pitching for the Cards will be rookie Jack Flaherty. He is 2-1 on the season with a 2.62 ERA. In his last outing, he allowed seven hits and four runs three earned over five innings in a no-decision Thursday against the Pirates.
How Miami Marlins & St. Louis Cardinals Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Cardinals are 20-7 in their last 27 when their opponent scores 2 runs or less in their previous game.
Marlins are 16-40 in their last 56 vs. a team with a winning record.
Against The Spread Selection: St. Louis Cardinals
My reason for the pick :
The Cardinals should take care of business at home against the struggling Marlins. With the way the Cards and pitching lately and their performance at home this season, it is not hard to predict who is going to come up on top in this game. The Marlins will struggle to score as they won’t be able to figure out pitches thrown by the rookie Flaherty as he will continue to impress as he will work his way for a permanent spot in the rotation.
