Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Oakland Athletics vs Texas Rangers

Game 1 of a 2-game set between the visiting Oakland Athletics and the Texas Rangers will take place at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, on Tuesday night at 8:05 pm EST.  the A’s had recently found themselves in a 3-game skid, yet, have won their last 2 games in which to remain in the 4th place slot within the AL West while the Rangers, on the other hand, continue to trade wins for losses (and vice versa) and continues to find themselves in the cellar of the division rankings.  This will be the 3rd meeting of the year amongst these two teams with the A’s winning 4 of the last 7 games while taking 2 of the last 3 at Globe Life Park on 4-25-2018.

Oakland Athletics's Latest Performance :

The Oakland Athletics have lost 3 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 1-4.  Recently, the A’s completed a 4-game road sweep of the slumping Toronto Blue Jays on 5-20-2018.  The Rays would go on to lose a 3-game home set to the Mariners while yet winning a 3-game home set against the Arizona Diamondbacks on 5-27-2018.  This would not translate into their following 4-game home set against the Rays as they dropped the first 2 games of the set.

For the season, the Athletics are averaging 4.31 runs per game (15th) with a team batting average of .240 (19th), 66 homers (9th), along with 11 stolen bases (30th).  Their pitching staff has an ERA of 3.94 (13th) with 417 strikeouts (26th) along with 24 quality starts on the season (12th).

Jed Lowrie (.307 BA on 212 AB), Stephen Piscotty (.229 BA on 166 AB), Marcus Semien (.268 BA on 235 AB), and Matt Chapman (.231 BA on 199 AB) have been the offensive leaders for the Athletics this year while Matt Olson (.240 BA on 196 AB) and Khris Davis (.235 B on 183 AB) have also been critical components to the offense for Oakland.

The 2 most impressive pitchers on Oakland’s staff is Sean Manaea (5-5, 70 IP, 28 R, 54 H, 9 HR, 13 BB, 53 SO, 3.34 ERA) and Daniel Mengden (5-4, 66.1 IP, 26 R, 58 H, 6 HR, 6 BB, 43 SO, 2.85 ERA) as they have proven themselves to be the most consistent of the bunch.

Texas Rangers's Latest Performance :

The Texas Rangers have lost 3 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 2-3.  Recently, the Rangers, after a 4-game series loss to the Chicago White Sox on 5-20-2018, would win a 3-game home set versus the New York Yankees on 5-23-2018.  Nonetheless, they would go on to tie a 4-game home set to the Kansas City Royals on 5-27-2018.  Most recently, the Rangers would tie a 4-game road set against the Seattle Mariners on 5-31-2018 due to a 6-1 loss.

For the season, the Rangers are averaging 4.25 runs per game (18th) with a team batting average of .230 (27th), 67 homers (10th) along with 29 stolen bases (13th).  Their pitching staff has an ERA of 4.79 (25th) with 437 strikeouts (24th) along with 18 quality starts on the season (26th).

Nomar Mazara (.277 BA on 220 AB) has been the most effective offensive star thus far for the Rangers.  On the other hand, Shin-Soo Choo (.259 BA on 216 AB) and Joey Gallo (.211 BA on 209 AB) have also been solid all-season long.

Cole Hamels (3-5) has pitched 65 innings this season while allowing 31 runs on 57 hits, 13 homers, 26 walks, and 66 strikeouts with an ERA of 3.74.  Bartolo Colon (2-2) has also pitched 63.1 innings while allowing 26 runs on 52 hits, 13 homers, 7 walks, and 40 strikeouts with an ERA of 3.55.

How Oakland Athletics & Texas Rangers Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

For the season, the Athletics are 24-30 ATS while the O/U is 25-26-3.  On the other hand, the Rangers are 23-32 ATS while the O/U is 21-31-3.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Both teams will attempt to pick up some momentum after a rough patch of games in which the Rangers have lost 8 of their last 15 games while the A’s have dropped 7 of their last 12 games.  This game will be interesting in that the focus will certainly be there as both teams look to add to the win column in which to gain more momentum and confidence moving forward.  The pitcher for the A’s have not been announced, however, Matt Moore (1-5) will be coming to the mound for the Rangers hoping to halt a string of losses and no-decisions.  He has given up his fair share of runs recently which may not bode well against a lineup that has averaged 7 runs in their last 4 wins.

Against The Spread Selection: Oakland Athletics

My reason for the pick :

I will take Oakland to shine in this contest.  While one could certainly give the Rangers credit in picking up some wins lately, the fact is that the A’s not only have a better squad, but, they are also more talented on the mound as well.  Combine this with the fact that the A’s really need a win in Tuesday’s matchup in which to reach their goal of gaining some ground within their respective division, I expect them to play well while the Rangers will flop beginning on the mound, once again, thus allowing Oakland to get the victory.
