Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Philadelphia Phillies vs Chicago Cubs
Game 2 of a 3-game set between the visiting Philadelphia Phillies and the Chicago Cubs will take place at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois, on Wednesday night at 8:05 pm EST. The Cubs have been on fire lately and currently occupy the 2nd place slot within the NL Central while the Phillies have lost 5 of their last 7 and have decreased their position to the number 3 slot within the NL East division. This will be the 1st matchup of the year amongst these two teams, however, the Cubs have taken 4 of the last 7 meetings while taking 3 of 4 in their last meeting at Wrigley Field on 5-1-2017.
Philadelphia Phillies's Latest Performance :
The Phillies enter this matchup losers of 4 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 1-4. Recently, they would win a 3-game home set versus the Atlanta Braves on 5-23-2018, yet, would follow up this set by losing a 3-game set versus the struggling Blue Jays on 5-25-2018. Most recently, the Phillies would tie a 4-game set against the Dodgers on 5-31-2018. Nonetheless, in their last series versus the San Francisco Giants, the Phillies were swept in a 3-game set at AT&T field on 6-3-2018.
For the season, the Phillies are averaging 4.19 runs per game (19th) with a team batting average of .233 (29th), 60 homers (22nd), along with 24 stolen bases on the year (22nd). Their pitching staff possesses an ERA of 3.47 (5th) with 512 strikeouts (12th), along with 29 quality starts (5th).
Odubel Herrera (.305 BA on 210 AB), Rhys Hoskins (.233 BA on 176 AB), and Cesar Hernandez (.264 BA on 216 AB) have been the stalwarts for this Phillies offensive attack. Maikel Franco (.253 BA on 184 Ab) and Scott Kingery (.216 BA on 176 AB) are also critical to the Philadelphia offense.
Aaron Nola (7-2) has pitched 78.1 innings this year while allowing 19 runs on 55 hits, 4 homers, 18 walks, and 74 strikeouts with an ERA of 2.18 while Nick Pivetta (4-4) has pitched 62 innings while allowing 24 runs on 54 hits, 5 homers, 17 walks, and 70 strikeouts with an ERA of 3.48 for the season.
Chicago Cubs 's Latest Performance :
The Cubs come into this game winners of 4 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 2-3. Recently, the Cubs would win a 3-game home series versus the inconsistent San Francisco Giants on 5-27-2018. They would apparently take this momentum into their next series against the Pittsburgh Pirates by winning the set on 5-30-2018. In their most current series win, they swept the reeling New York Mets in a 4-game series on 6-3-2018.
For the season, the Cubs are averaging 5.23 runs per game (3rd) with a team batting average of .266 (2nd), 63 homers (19th) along with 24 stolen bases (21st). Their pitching staff has an ERA of 3.18 (2nd) with 493 strikeouts (16th) with 25 quality starts on the season, good for 16th in the MLB.
Kris Bryant (.289 BA on 201 AB), Kyle Schwarber (.262 BA on 164 AB), and Javier Baez (.270 BA on 211 AB) have spearheaded the Cubs offensive attack this year. Wilson Contreras has also been critical to the scoring attack with a batting average of .270 on 189 at bats.
Jon Lester (6-2) has been solid this year pitching 70 innings while allowing 23 runs on 56 hits, 8 homer, 25 walks, and 61 strikeouts with an ERA of 2.44 while Kyle Hendricks (4-4) has pitched 67.2 innings while allowing 26 runs on 58 hits, 11 homers, 14 walks, and 52 strikeouts with an ERA of 3.19 for the season. Jose Quintana (6-4) has pitched 58.2 innings while allowing 31 runs on 54 hits, 8 homers, 29 walks, and 57 strikeouts with an ERA of 4.30.
How Philadelphia Phillies & Chicago Cubs Matchup.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:
This game will not only be interesting in that you have a Phillies team that has lost 3 of their last 4 and looking for a spark that could allow them to begin to re-ignite their season against a very talented team that it looking to continue its push for the top spot within their respective division. I must say that while both teams possess dangerous hitters, the pitchers slated to take the hill in this contest are solid and are each having a great year thus far. Aaron Nola (7-2) for the Phillies and Jose Quintana (6-4) will get the start and, by judging from their recent starts, there will not be many runs scored in this contest. In all, it will be interesting to see how the hot Cubs lineup matches up with what has been a very solid 2018 campaign for Nola.
Totals Selection: Under
My reason for the prediction :
The Under has been the play in 4 of Quintana’s last 7 starts while Nola has went under in 6 straight contests. The Phillies lineup has been ice cold recently averaging only 1 run per game in their last 4 with the under being 3-1 in those games. Chicago has been shining on offense lately, however, Nola will certainly prove to the power hitters for the Cubs that he can indeed ‘man the mound’ in game 2. In all, expect this to be a great pitcher’s duel along with all-around defensive game that will certainly be fun to watch.
