Chicago White Sox vs Minnesota Twins

The finale of a 4-game set against the visiting Chicago White Sox and the Minnesota Twins will take place at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on Tuesday beginning at 4:10 pm EST with the opener on 6-5-2018 being a doubleheader.  The White Sox have lost 18 of their last 27 games thus explaining their last place standing within the AL Central while the Twins have won 3-straight games and occupy the 3rd spot within the division.  In the last matchup for the White Sox, they won the finale against a hot Milwaukee Brewers team by a score of 6-1 on 6-3-2018 to take the series win.  The Twins would win a 4-game home set against the Cleveland Indians on 6-3-2018 with the finale being a 7-5 victory.  In all, this will be the 2nd matchup of the season amongst these 2 teams, however, the White Sox won game 1 of a 4-game set at Target Field on 4-12-2018 with the rest of the series being postponed due to weather conditions.

Chicago White Sox's Latest Performance :

The Chicago White Sox have had a rough go of it lately, losing 3 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 2-2-1.  Recently, the White Sox would lose a 3-game set to the Detroit Tigers on 5-27-2018 while following this effort by getting swept in their next series, a 3-game road set versus the Indians on 5-30-2018.  The White Sox would redeem themselves by taking out a hot Brewers team at home on 6-3-2018 in a 3-game set.

For the season, the White Sox are averaging 3.98 runs per game (27th) with a team batting average of .245 (16th), 66 homers (15th), along with 50 stolen bases (1st).  Their pitching staff has an ERA of 4.99 (26th) with 405 strikeouts (30th) along with 22 quality starts this season (20th).

Tim Anderson (.239 BA on 201 AB), Yoan Moncada (.243 BA on 189 Ab), Yolmer Sanchez (.279 BA on 208 AB), and Jose Abreu (.300 BA on 217 AB) have been the offensive leaders for the White Sox this season.  Nicky Delmonico (.224 BA on 116 AB) and Matt Davidson (.243 BA on 140 AB) have also been solid at the plate this season.

Reynaldo Lopez (1-4, 64 IP, 31 R, 53 H, 7 HR, 27 BB, 44 SO, 2.80 ERA) and James Shields (1-6, 76.1 IP, 38 R, 65 H, 7 HR, 31 BB, 51 SO, 4.48 ERA) have pitched the most innings this year for the White Sox.

Minnesota Twins's Latest Performance :

The Minnesota Twins come into this game winners of 3 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 4-1.  Recently, the Twins would get swept by a hot Seattle Mariners squad in a 3-game road set on 5-27-2018 while also coming out flat and losing in a 3-game road set against the reeling Kansas City Royals on 5-30-2018.  The Twins would, however, coming out blazing in their 4-game home set versus the Clevelenad Indians which they won on 6-3-2018.

For the season, the Twins are averaging 4.35 runs per game (12th) with a team batting average of .241 (19th), 66 homers (22nd) along with 18 stolen bases (26th).  Their pitching staff has an ERA of 4.28 (19th) with 498 strikeouts (15th) along with 22 quality starts on the year (22nd).

Eduardo Escobar (.266 BA on 203 AB), Joe Mauer (.283 BA on 138 AB), Max Kepler (.240 BA on 196 AB), and Brian Dozier (.246 BA on 228 AB) have been consistent within the Twins offense this season; However, Eddie Rosario (.317 BA on 218 AB) has been instrumental in their offensive attack as well.

Pitcher Kyle Gibson (1-3, 68.2 IP, 28 R, 53 H, 6 HR, 30 BB, 73 SO, 3.54 ERA) and Jose Berrios (6-5, 74.2 IP, 32 R, 57 H, 10 HR, 14 BB, 72 SO, 3.86 ERA) have led the Twins pitching staff thus far.  Jake Odorizzi (3-2, 63 IP, 32 R, 59 H, 14 HR, 26 BB, 61 SO, 4.14 ERA) has also been solid for Minnesota this year.

How Chicago White Sox & Minnesota Twins Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

For the season, the Indians are 20-29 ATS while the O/U is 26-22-1.  On the other hand, the White Sox are 31-25 ATS while the O/U is 26-26-4.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Once again, a matchup of teams looking to string together some wins in which to make some noise in their division.  The White Sox enter this game losers of 8 of their last 10 games while the Twins are not much better in dropping 7 of their last 11 contests.  Nonetheless, the one thing that separates both squads is that the Twins have won 3-straight and are looking to continue their momentum moving forward against a struggling Chicago team that has not performed well offensively, defensively, or from the plate this year.

James Shields (1-6) will get the start for the White Sox while Jose Berrios (6-5) will come to the mound for the Twins in the finale.  Brian Dozier (.364 BA on 33 AB), Robbie Grossman (375 BA on 8 AB), Logan Morrison (.375 BA on 8 AB), and Bobby Wilson (.333 BA on 3 AB) have had the most experience against Shields in the past; However, Eduardo Escobar (.154 BA on 13 AB), Max Kepler (.154 BA on 13 AB), Ryan LaMarre (0-1), Eddie Rosario (0-8), and Miguel Sano (.125 BA on 8 AB) have not fared as well in recent outings.  For Berrios, he has been very effective against the Twins lineup with only Omar Narvaez (.286 BA on 7 AB) and Yolmer Sanchez (.200 BA on 10 AB) hitting .200 or more against him.  Jose Abreu has a .111 batting average on 9 at bats versus Berrios in his career.

Against The Spread Selection: Minnesota Twins

My reason for the pick :

The White Sox did a great job of closing out the dangerous Milwaukee Brewers this past weekend, however, will the momentum continue to build?  Trends have suggested that it will not, which is why I will back the Twins, who are attempting to right themselves from a past losing skid by winning their last 3 contests.  Besides, the White Sox are only 1-5 in their last 6 road games which means that despite their recent success at home, they have just not proven that they can consistently win on the road.
