Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Kansas City Royals vs Oakland Athletics
The Athletics will be welcoming the Royals to Oakland Alameda Coliseum as these two teams will be playing each other again after facing off each other two days ago with the A’s beating out the Royals on the road 2-1 in a 3 game series. This time the two teams will be playing in a four-game series. The A’s are 4th in the AL West while the Royals are 4th in the AL Central.
Kansas City Royals's Latest Performance :
The Royals will cap off their 7 game road trip by playing against the A’s, the Royals are 11-18 on the road this season, they are currently in 4th place of the AL Central division, it is a rebuilding season for the Royals as they can’t seem to figure out their pitching woes this season, the Royals gave up 9 runs against the Angels in the series opener, 3 runs gave up by the teams’ bullpen. The Royals still remain the worst pitching team in the Major with a 5.49 ERA with 60 games into the season. The Royals made moves in the draft to improve the team by selecting 5 college pitchers with first 5 picks.
Salvador Perez went 2-for-4 with a homer. He hit his 10th homer in the seventh inning that tied the game at 6-6. He is still only hitting .242 with a .295 on-base percentage, but his power has been impressive, and he’s already driving in 31 runs in just 40 games since coming back from his knee injury near the end of April. He was able to drive 2 runs in the last series against the A’s. He should play a huge factor on the road for the Royals batting. It must be tough for him to play with pitchers who aren’t able to hold their ground and giving up runs in late innings, it is out of the batter’s control as he will have to continue to perform and hopes that the pitcher will do his job as well.
Pitching for the Royals will be Jason Hammel. He allowed seven hits and three runs in six innings last Saturday against the A’s back at Kauffman Stadium in a no-decision. He now owns a 5.17 ERA and 1.43 WHIP on the season.
Oakland Athletics's Latest Performance :
The Athletics will be returning home for a 10 game homestand starting Thursday as they will be playing against the Royals in a 4 game series. The A’s are 15-15 when playing at home this season, they are now in 4th place of the AL West division with a record of 31-29 7 games behind the Mariners for the top spot in the division. Coming into this series the A’s are 11th in batting with 269 runs scored and 14th in pitching with a 3.87 ERA. Playing against the Royals will give the A’s the opportunity to climb up the standings in the AL West division.
I expect Jed Lowrie to play well against the Royals at home as he was able to collect 3 RBIs on the road, he will look to take advantage of the Royals pitchers when the Royals come to Oakland. He is the team leader in RBIs this season with 42, he also has 9 homers while slashing .296/.362/.481 on the year. Ever since Khris Davis returned from the DL list he hasn’t really found his stroke on the plate picking up only 2 RBIs in the 3 games in he played against the Royals, he is hoping to turn things around at home as the A’s can’t afford to drop winnable games this season. He is slashing .230/.308/.480 with 13 homers and 40 RBIs with 51 games played this season.
Pitching for the A’s at home will be Trevor Cahill. He struggled in a no-decision against the Royals on Saturday, surrendering four runs on seven hits over his 4 2/3 frames. He owns a 2.77 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 47/11 K/BB ratio across his 48 2/3 innings.
How Kansas City Royals & Oakland Athletics Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Athletics are 17-5 in their last 22 games vs. a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30.
Royals are 8-3 in their last 11 when their opponent allows 2 runs or less in their previous game.
Against The Spread Selection: Oakland Athletics
My reason for the pick :
The A’s will be able to take care of business at home as they will cruise to another victory over the Royals. Lowrie will take advantage of Hammel pitches as he will look to give the A’s the early lead and never look back. The Royals are still a long way from contending however, they did a really solid job in the draft drafting young pitchers whom they can develop into great pitchers in the future because with the way the team is pitching; wins are very hard to come by for the Royals.
