Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Miami Marlins vs St. Louis Cardinals
The Cards will welcome back the Marlins to Busch Stadium to play in the rubber game as the two teams will conclude a 3 game series. The Cards will look to take advantage of the Marlins who have lost their past six games and have scored just four combined runs in their past three games.
Miami Marlins's Latest Performance :
The Marlins are hoping that they can avoid another series sweep as they haven’t been great on the road at all they are 10-21 this season. They will probably remain in the last place of the NL East as they are now 9 games behind the Mets for the 4th spot in the division. It has been very hard for the Marlins fan to see them playing this bad as though at the start of the season they did look promising winning 4 straight series but after that streak ended everything went down south for the Marlins. They are hoping to turn things around with the upcoming draft, the Marlins selected outfielder Connor Scott with the 13th pick he is regarded as one of the most athletic players in the Draft who the Marlins believe who can become the potential cornerstone of this franchise.
J.T. Realmuto has hit .301 since coming off the disabled list in mid-April. He has become one of the leaders of this Marlins team this season. He did not have a great series against the D-Backs as he looks to bounce back against the Cards. In the last series, he went 2 for 12 from the plate. J.T. is too good of a player to let one bad series effect him as he is still working his way back from the back injury he suffered earlier this year. He is slashing .312/.359/.510 with six home runs and 18 RBI in 39 games.
Pitching for the Marlins will be Elieser Hernandez. He had the worst start of his young career, as he allowed five earned runs in three innings against the D-backs. He will look to bounce back in the rubber game against the Cards and will be hoping for a better outcome. He owns a 4.29 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP.
St. Louis Cardinals's Latest Performance :
The Cardinals are a really solid team at home this season with a home record of 18-12, they are 2 games behind the Cubs for the 2nd spot in the division, playing against the Marlins would give the Cards the opportunity to climb up the standings. Coming into this series the Cards are 21st in scoring with 245 runs scored this season. If the Cards are able to figure out the scoring woes they can potentially become a dark horse in the NL Central considering how well they have been pitching this year the Cards have a 3.48 ERA which ranks them 6th best in the Major. The Cards have pitchers who can singlehandedly win them games.
Expect Jose Martinez to play well against the Marlins as he is the team leader in RBIs this season with 31. Although he slumped in late May, I am predicting he is going to have a great month of June and there is no better way to starts things off by going up against the Marlins who have been struggling on the road lately. Due to the crowded infield of the Cardinals, he will have to play with a chip on his shoulder to prove to his coaching staff that he still got what it takes to start on this team and the slump is just a slight hiccup. To get out of the slump he must keep on hitting and allow the game to come to him. I expect him to play well at home against the Marlins. He is slashing .292/.362/.441 with 5 homers this season.
Pitching the Cards will be Miles Mikolas. He took his first loss the last time he played, ending his unbeaten streak at 11 starts. But he’s still been one of the best stories of the season’s first half, going 6-1 with a 2.49 ERA after returning from three seasons in Japan.
How Miami Marlins & St. Louis Cardinals Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Cardinals are 20-7 in their last 27 when their opponent scores 2 runs or less in their previous game.
Marlins are 16-40 in their last 56 vs. a team with a winning record.
Against The Spread Selection: St. Louis Cardinals
My reason for the pick :
With Mikolas controlling the mound for the Cards in the rubber game you expect him to pick up the win for the team and expect him to do just that. The Cards should be able to pick up yet another impressive win over the Marlins. The Marlins will continue to struggle on the road. Mikolas to limit the Marlins from scoring as the Marlins have scored the fewest runs in baseball this season.
