Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Milwaukee Brewers vs Philadelphia Phillies
The Phillies will welcome the Brewers to Citizens Bank Park as the two teams will go head to head in a 3 game series. The Phillies are 3rd in the NL East while the Brewers are 1st in the NL Central division. This will their first meeting of the season.
Milwaukee Brewers 's Latest Performance :
The Brewers will cap off their 8 game road trip by playing the Phillies in a 3 game series. The Brewers are the best team in the NL Central with a record of 37-24 on the season, they are 19-13 on the road and have solidified themselves as one of the most surprising teams this season. Coming into this series the Brewers are 7th in pitching with a 3.52 ERA on the season. The Brewers are currently in a slump taking a back to back loss since April losing to the Cubs in the series opener and failing to win 7 straight series with a loss against the White Sox, they will hope to turn things around when they hit the road.
Travis Shaw hit his 14th home run of the season. His solo homer was off closer Cody Allen to lead off the ninth inning cut the Indians’ lead to one, but Allen then retired the next three batters to shut the door. It was the first time in nine games that Shaw had gone with a homer. He is slashing .250/.340/.514 with 37 RBIs, the Brewers will need him to play well for the team to end the slump.
Pitching for the Brewers will be Jhoulys Chacin. He pitched a five-run outing against the Mets to end the month of May. He rebounded to pitch 5 2/3 scoreless innings against the White Sox. Including that Mets game, Chacin has a 2.60 ERA over his last 10 starts.
Philadelphia Phillies's Latest Performance :
The Phillies will be back at Citizens Bank Park for a 6 game homestand beginning Friday. The homestand opens with a three-game series against the Brewers. The Phillies are a really solid team when playing at home this season they are 19-9, the Phillies were able to win the series opener against the Cubs by putting up 6 runs and allowing only 1. The Phillies are 5th best in pitching with an ERA of 3.45 on the season. Zach Eflin took a shutout into the 8th inning. The Phillies are having a great season so far with a record of 32-26 just one game behind the Braves for first place. As the season progresses the ability for this Phillies team to win at home will be very useful.
Nick Williams had a two-run homer and an RBI, he is doing a good job filling for Hoskins. He has now got 7 homers on the season to go with 17 RBIs. He is hoping to put up great numbers during this homestand as Hoskins is set to return to the team around mid-June. He is slashing .234/.300/.430 on the season.
Carlos Santana is the team leader in RBIs with 34 on the season he will be glad to be playing back home again because that is where he normally does most of his damage to the pitchers. He will hope that his batting average would start to pick up as he is only slashing .210/.343/.429 with 9 homers. He is a much better batter at home than on the road.
Pitching for the Phillies will be Vince Velasquez. He has been finding his groove. He has a 2.14 ERA in his past six starts, striking out 45 and walking 13 in 33 2/3 innings. The Phillies need more of that, particularly with the offense struggling the past few weeks.
How Milwaukee Brewers & Philadelphia Phillies Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Phillies are 10-4 in their last 14 vs. a team with a winning record.
Brewers are 6-1 in their last 7 when their opponent allows 2 runs or less in their previous game.
Against The Spread Selection: Philadelphia Phillies
My reason for the pick :
It is very hard to bet against the impressive home record of the Phillies they are 19-9 at home for a reason and I predict that that trend will continue when they start their 6 game homestand. Velasquez will put up a masterful pitching performance as the Phillies should be able to win at home over the Brewers, it won’t be an easy win as this matchup should go down to the wire. The Brewer slumps continue.
Betting trends for Milwaukee Brewers :
- Brewers are 9-3 in their last 12 vs. a team with a winning record.
Betting trends for Philadelphia Phillies:
- Phillies are 10-2 in their last 12 vs. National League Central.
