San Francisco Giants's Latest Performance :
The Giants will go on a 10 game road trip starting on Friday they have not been great this season on the road they are 12-20. The Giants have dropped into 4th place in the NL West division after the second game loss against the D-Backs ending their 5 game winning streak. Coming into this series the Giants are 22nd in pitching with a 4.37 ERA. The Nationals will be a challenge for the Giants because they always seem to have a hard tough time playing against teams with elite pitchers.
Brandon Crawford went 1-for-2 with a double, two walks and an RBI. He has hit safely in his seventh consecutive game, and he is hitting .476 (10-for-21) during the impressive stretch to raise his average from .305 to .322 just since May 29. The Giants will need more than one player to beat the Nationals at home.
Andrew McCutchen will have to play well on the road for the Giants the team will be hoping that he can carry over his impressive batting at home on the road, he is currently on a 3 game hitting streak after going 0 of 4 in his return to the team. He is slashing .250/.349/.412 with 26 RBIs and 5 homers.
Pitching for the Giants will be Andrew Suarez. He allowed three hits with no walks and five strikeouts over seven scoreless innings in a victory Saturday against Philadelphia. It was his first quality start in six outings dating back to May 1.
Washington Nationals's Latest Performance :
The Nationals will cap off their 5 game homestand by playing against the Giants in a 3 game series, they are only 13-14 when playing at home this season. The Nats are coming off a tough series against the Braves they weren’t able to take advantage considering how good they are on the road. The Nationals still remain 2nd in the NL East with a record of 34-25. Coming into this series the Nationals are 3rd best in the Major in pitching with a 3.20 ERA. Max Scherzer continues to be impressive for the Nationals this season he collected 13 strikeouts in 8 innings of two-run ball in his last performance at home, he is now the first pitcher in the Major to have 10 wins and only one loss.
Matt Adams continues to hit homers for the Nationals as he is now up to 13th on the season, he has finally ended his hitting slump, it was his first hit in five games. He will have a chance to matchup against another great batter who is starting to pick things up again, Andrew McCutchen. Adams is slashing .255/.340/.574 with 33 RBIs on the season. The Nationals will have to find ways to keep the Braves within arm’s length as they are only 2 games behind the Braves in the win column.
Pitching for the Nationals will be Gio Gonzalez. He surrendered three runs in seven innings and did not earn a decision in Saturday’s extra-inning win over the Braves. He is 6-2 with a magnificent 2.27 ERA after 12 starts with a 1.23 WHIP.
