Milwaukee Brewers vs Philadelphia Phillies
The Philadelphia Phillies are set to return back to Citizens Bank Park for game 2 of a 3 game home series against National League foe in the Milwaukee Brewers, first pitch is slated for 1:05 PM ET. After this series, these two teams will meet again in a week when Philadelphia travels to Milwaukee on 6/15 for a 3 game series.
Milwaukee Brewers's Latest Performance :
The Milwaukee Brewers were once upon a time one of the hottest teams in baseball as they put together a nice win streak to climb on top of the NL Central but as of recent, the Brewers have not been the best team as they entered this series losers of 3 straight. The Brewers pitchers continued their good start to the season with a solid outing in their 6/6 matchup against the Indians as they held them to 3 runs. Chase Anderson was the lone problem for the Brewers as the 30-year-old righty gave up all 3 earned runs in the 4.1 innings he appeared in. Anderson has not been good in his 12 starts of 2018 as the veteran has a 4-5 record as well as a 4.57 ERA which is one of the worst in terms of starting pitchers. After Anderson left the ballgame the bullpen was able to stop the bleeding as they held the Indians to only 2 hits over 3.2 innings. Perhaps one of the best relievers out of the bunch was rookie Taylor Williams who went 1.1 innings without giving up a hit which improved his ERA to a 2.31 through 21 appearances. Offensively the Brewers should have been able to score a lot more runs as they outhit the Indians 9-6 but they struggled with leaving runners on base which held them to only 1 run. Travis Shaw continued his solid start to the season with the lone RBI of the game as he recorded a base hit in the top of the 3rd inning. Travis Shaw has been the leader for Milwaukee all year as he doesn’t only lead the team in HRs (14) but as well as in RBIs as he now recorded his 38th.
Philadelphia Phillies's Latest Performance :
The Philadelphia Phillies at one point in May looked like a clear-cut playoff team as they jumped out to a nice lead in the NL East but as we know the season is long so teams endure highs as well as lows which is the case for this young ballclub. The Phillies have found themselves all the way in 3rd place in a really deep division as they have dropped 7 of their last 10 games. Everything was going well for the Phillies in their 6/6 matchup against the Cubs as they entered the bottom of the 9th inning with a 5-3 lead. The Phillies elected to start Aaron Nola who has been one of the best pitchers in his short tenure and although he struggled in the run department (3 earned runs) he was still solid as he stuck out 6 guys. Nola received a no-decision in his 12th start of the season which allows him to keep one of the best records in the MLB as he is 7-2. The relievers for Philadelphia struggles especially in the later innings as they gave up 4 earned runs in the final 1.1 innings. Adam Morgan can be accredited with the loss as the 4th year left gave up a grand-slam in the bottom of the 9th inning which propelled the Cubs to a 7-5 win. The Phillies bats did enough in order for them to win this game as they scored 5 runs on 6 hits behind a great game from Aaron Altherr. Altherr was able to connect on a ball in the top of the 6th inning which brought in 3 RBIs as well as raise his season total to 6 HRs. Altherr needed a good game from the plate as the 27-year-old is only batting .184 through 53 games.

Against The Spread Selection: Philadelphia Phillies
My reason for the pick :
Both teams are in the hunt for a playoff spot which hasn’t been done for either of these two organizations for a while now and although both teams have endured some recent struggles I believe they will get back on track eventually. The reason that I am backing the Phillies in this matchup is due to the fact that they have the better pitcher on the mound in Jake Arietta. Arietta struggled last go around against the Giants but that has been a rare occurrence for the veteran and I expect him to ramp up his play in this one considering he is going against a below-average offense. The Phillies should be able to get enough run support from their offense as Suter has had inconsistencies from the mound. Philly continues their good season at home with a win.
