In-Depth Analysis of each team:
This matchup amongst these two teams on Saturday will be a rematch of a 4-game set at PetCo Park earlier in the year when the Padres won the series off stellar offensive play along with consistent pitching from the mound. The Marlins, at this point, are seemingly in trouble losing 12 of their last 17 games while the Padres have indeed played well recently winning 12 of their last 19 games. The pitcher for the Marlins have not been announced, however, the Padres’ ace Tyson Ross (5-3) will get the start for game 2 looking to continue the momentum for San Diego. Ross has been solid all season and will toe the mound on Saturday looking for his 4th win in 5 starts. Justin Buor (1-3), Starlin Castro (3-9), Cameron Maybin (2-5), and JT Realmuto (1-3) have had a bit of experience and success against him in the past; However, Derek Dietrich (0-4) and Miguel Rojas (0-4) have not have any success at all against the righty in their respective careers.
Against The Spread Selection: San Diego Padres
My reason for the pick :
It is apparent who the better team is at this point in the season. San Diego has not only played well lately, as a whole, but, they have also shined against the Marlines in the past and seek to continue this trend at Marlins Park on Saturday. I will have to back the Padres in this contest in that they will have their ace on the mound who has been on a tear lately as well as the fact that the Padres have really been picking up some hard-fought wins due to strong pitching and reliable offense, something the Padres have struggled with all season. Nonetheless, the San Diego will certainly continue their stellar play against the Marlins, thus dropping them to 10-19 at Marlins Park for 2018.
