Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

St. Louis Cardinals vs Cincinnati Reds

The Reds will welcome the Cards to the Great American Ball Park as the two teams will go head to head in a 3 games series. The Reds are in the last place of the NL Central division while the Cardinals are 3rd.

St. Louis Cardinals's Latest Performance :

The Cardinals are coming off a series loss against the Marlins. As they now prepare to visit Cincinnati for a 3 game series. The Cardinals are not a good road team this season they are 13-16 when playing away from home. Coming into this series the Cardinals are 7th best in the Major in pitching with an ERA of 3.54 playing against the Reds will give them a great opportunity to bounce back after the Marlins series. With the series loss, the Cardinals are now 3 and a half game back of the number one spot of the division. Jack Flaherty wasn’t able to hold his ground against the Marlins as he allowed six runs on eight hits and a walk with six strikeouts while the Cardinals offense couldn’t keep up.

Jose Martinez went 3-for-3 with a double, a walk and two runs scored.  He wrapped up the month of May in a 0-for-12 tailspin. Since flipping the calendar to June he has picked up the pace, going 7-for-15 (.467) with three doubles, three runs scored and two RBI in four outings to raise his average back to .306 from .294. If he is able to keep up this batting in June he will play a Major role in the Cardinals chances of making the postseason as they are still within arm’s length, if the Cards play well in the 3 game series they will be back contending for the top spot in the division.

Pitching for the Cards will be Michael Wacha. He is fresh off a one-hit, eight-plus inning shutout performance against the Pirates on Sunday. The right-hander was three outs away from a no-hitter, but he gave up a leadoff single to Austin Meadows. He now owns an ERA of 2.41 with a 1.10 WHIP.

Cincinnati Reds's Latest Performance :

The Reds are coming off a series loss against the Rockies, they are now on a 4 game losing streak the Reds aren’t having the best season this year they are in the last place of the NL Central division with a record of 21-41. The Reds have the worst home record in the Major they are 9-22 when playing at home this season. One of the main problems for the Reds this season is the teams pitching they are ranked 29th in the Major with a 5.07 ERA on the season. The Reds selected 16 pitchers in the draft and took Florida third baseman Jonathan India with the 5th overall.

Scooter Gennett went 1-for-3 with two RBI. He drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the third inning, then laced an RBI-double that plated Joey Votto in the fifth. He starting to pick things up after a slow start to the season he was named NL Player of the month of May. For the season he has a .344 batting average with 12 homers, 44 RBI and 32 runs scored.

Against The Spread Selection: St. Louis Cardinals

My reason for the pick :

The Reds will continue to struggle at home this season as the Cardinals should be able to bounce back and win on the road against the struggling Reds. Games like these against a bad team like the Reds the Cardinals should take full advantage because they will be able to climb back up the standings. Wacha will be able to follow up his one hit performance with a dominant win on the road.
