Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Houston Astros vs Texas Rangers
The Rangers will welcome the Astros back to Globe Life Park for the rubber game. The Rangers are in the last place of the AL West division while the World Series Champion Astros are in 2nd place. This is the 4th time this season that these two teams have played each other.
Houston Astros's Latest Performance :
The Astros were able to win the series opener against the Rangers, the World Series Champion reminded us why they were the best pitching team in the Major they have a team ERA of 2.89 this season and 3 of their starting pitchers have 7 wins this season, that is how good they are this season in pitching. The Astros will be able to close the gap on the Mariners if they play well against the Rangers on the road as of right now the Astros are only one game back for the top spot in the division.
Evan Gattis went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in a win over the Rangers on Thursday. Rangers starter Cole Hamels left a changeup over the middle of the plate and Gattis he struck the ball for a two-run homer. He added an RBI single in the sixth inning. Gattis now has 10 homers, 31 RBI and 22 runs scored while batting .234/.301/.461 in 53 games this year. He was playing on another level, look for him to continue to play well in this series.
Jose Altuve went 3-for-4 with an RBI single, a stolen base and two runs scored. All three of Altuve’s hits were singles, running his line to .338/.384/.458 through 64 games. He’s got four homers, 31 RBI, 37 runs scored and nine steals this season.
Pitching for the Astros will be Dallas Keuchel. He was rocked for a season-high seven runs, including three homers, in 6 2/3 innings in Tuesday’s loss to the Mariners. After throwing seven scoreless innings against Texas on May 13, he’s 0-3 with a 6.75 ERA in four starts.
Texas Rangers's Latest Performance :
The Rangers weren’t able to win the series opener against the Astros at home, the Rangers now drop to 27-28 on the season and 13-20 when playing at home. They weren’t able to follow up the performance they had in the last series where they swept the A’s in a two-game series. Ranger Pitcher Cole Hamels couldn’t figure out the Astros batters in the first game as he allowed five runs, including two home runs, over 7 1/3 innings. Coming into this series the Rangers are ranked 15th in batting with 272 runs scored this season but the teams’ pitching needs improvements as they are ranked 23rd in the Major with a 4.69 ERA.
The Rangers will need more from Joey Gallo in the rubber game against the Astros as he finished 0 for 4 from the plate in the series opener, he simply has to play better for the Rangers to compete against Astros, he is the team leader for the Rangers with 37 RBIs and 17 homers while slashing .204/.291/.473 this season. In the series opener, you can clearly see where the Astros are as a team compared to the Rangers this season. It was tough for the Rangers to make an impact against an elite pitcher like Cole.
Pitching for the Rangers will be Matt Moore. He is coming off a six-inning outing against the A’s on Tuesday when he allowed three runs on eight hits in a no-decision. That was the deepest he’s pitched in a game since his last victory on April 17, when he threw seven innings vs. the Rays.
How Houston Astros & Texas Rangers Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Rangers are 15-31 in their last 46 after allowing 5 runs or more in their previous game.
Astros are 17-7 in their last 24 vs. a team with a losing record.
Against The Spread Selection: Houston Astros
My reason for the pick :
Despite Keuchel controlling the mound for the Astros, I still think that the Rangers won’t be able to close things out at home against the World Series Champion, although it will be a very high scoring game the Astros batters are too good at the moment to be stopped. The Astros don’t want the Mariners to have a comfortable lead up top that is why the Astros will be extra focus in the rubber game against the Rangers.
