Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Boston Red Sox vs Baltimore Orioles
The Orioles will welcome the Red Sox to Oriole Park as the AL East division teams will go head to head in 3 game series. The O’s are in the last place of the division while the Red Sox are in 2nd place. This will be their 3rd time meeting this season, the Red Sox holds the season series 2-0.
Boston Red Sox's Latest Performance :
The Red Sox, have now lost 2 straight games, making them drop into the second place of the AL East division trailing the Yankees by only 1/2 a game. Through the 43-21 the Red Sox lead the Majors in wins. Coming into this series the Red Sox are the best team in batting with 335 runs scored this season however without their two best batters out the Red Sox weren’t able to generate any offense, this tells you how valuable is Mookie and Martinez is on this Red Sox team. Chris Sales was superb on the mound in his last performance he struck out 10 while allowing 6 hits in 8th innings.
J.D. Martinez should be back healthy when the Red Sox play the O’s on the road, he is having a breakout year playing with the Red Sox, he has fitted in very nicely with this Red Sox team, look for him to dominate the O’s on the road as he will remind the Red Sox how valuable he is on the team. He is slashing .314/.374/.646 with 52 RBIs and 20 homers on the season which leads the Major. The Red Sox should be fine against the O’s as the Red Sox batters should be firing left and right against the O’s on the road.
Pitching for the Red Sox will be Steven Wright. His knuckleballer was brilliant in his first start of the season, pitching seven innings of two-hit baseball in a 6-0 win over the Tigers. With Drew Pomeranz sidelined with an injury, Wright should be in the rotation at least for a while. He will use this opportunity to show that he is worthy to become a starter in the Red Sox pitchers rotation.
Baltimore Orioles's Latest Performance :
The Orioles have now lost 6 of 8 games despite sweeping the Mets in a two-game series. They have reverted back to old habits as they can’t seem to figure out the Blue Jays on the road and it looks like that series will end up in another sweep. The Orioles will return home as they will be playing the Red Sox in a 3 game series, it has been another forgettable season for the O’s as they are in the last place of the AL East division with only 19 wins so far this year. Coming into this series the O’s are 29th in batting with 223 runs scored this season, they have now scored one run or fewer 18 times this season.
Manny Machado seems to be the only Orioles player making headlines nowadays, he is linked to many teams via free agency, Machado will continue to put on a show for his home crowd but the days that he will be joining a contender is very near, with the numbers he is putting up with the O’s he deserves to go play elsewhere because if he remains on a bad team like the O’s we won’t know how good he can be. He is slashing 323/.391/.617 with 18 home runs and 50 RBI in 61 games this season for the last-place O’s. It will be a great opportunity for Machado to showcase his talent against a very strong team like the Red Sox.
Pitching for the O’s will be Dylan Bundy held the Mets to three hits over seven scoreless innings Wednesday in the Orioles’ 1-0 victory. He struck out five and walked three over 96 pitches. He has now logged four quality starts in his last five outings while lowering his ERA from 5.31 to 4.04.
How Boston Red Sox & Baltimore Orioles Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Orioles are 17-38 in their last 55 when their opponent scores 5 runs or more in their previous game.
Red Sox are 40-13 in their last 53 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400.
Against The Spread Selection: Boston Red Sox
My reason for the pick :
The Red Sox should cruise through another road victory against the O’s, despite the batting hiccup against the White Sox the Red Sox batters are too good to let one game affect them. Martinez will be firing on all cylinders coming back from the DL list and Wright will continue to impress on the mound in his second start.
Red Sox to win on the road against the Orioles.
