Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Chicago Cubs vs Milwaukee Brewers
Game 1 of a 3-game set between the visiting Chicago Cubs and the Milwaukee Brewers will take place at Miller Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Monday night at 8:10 pm EST. The Cubs have been on a tear lately and currently occupy the 2nd place slot within the NL Central while the Brewers have been the toast of the division so far in winning 9 of their last 16 game to occupy the top spot within the division, altogether. The Brewers have, however, have lost 5 of their last 7 games while also allowing the Cubs to better position themselves to gain the top spot in the division. It is for this reason that this matchup will certainly be interesting and competitive. This will be the 3rd matchup of the year amongst these two squads, however, the Cubs have dominated the series in winning 6 of the last 7 games including winning a 4-game set at Miller Field on 4-8-2018.
Chicago Cubs's Latest Performance :
The Brewers have lost 3 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 1-4. Recently, the Brewers would win a 3-game set versus the St. Louis Cardinals on 5-30-2018, yet, would drop a 3-game road set to the lowly White Sox on 6-3-2018. The Brewers would also take another step back by getting swept by the Cleveland Indians in a 2-game set at Progressive Field on 6-6-2018. They would, however, recover in game 1 of their current 3-game road series versus the slumping Phillies by a score of 12-4 on 6-8-2018.
For the season, the Brewers are averaging 4.27 runs per game (17th) with a team batting average of .248 (14th), 78 homers (8th), and 41 stolen bases on the year (5th). Their pitching staff has an ERA of 3.53 (5th) with 539 strikeouts (15th), along with 17 quality starts (29th).
Lorenzo Cain (.277 BA on 202 AB), Ryan Braun (.232 BA on 151 AB), Travis Shaw (.252 BA on 206 AB), and Domingo Santana (.260 BA on 169 AB) have been the most consistent offensive weapons for the Brewers this season.
Jhoulys Chacin (4-1, 69 IP, 29 R, 59 H, 5 HR, 29 BB, 50 SO, 3.39 ERA) has been a bright spot for this Brewer pitching staff this season.
Milwaukee Brewers's Latest Performance :
The Cubs come into this game winners of 4 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 2-3. Recently, the Cubs would win a 3-game road series versus the Pittsburgh Pirates on 5-30-2018 while also sweeping the reeling New York Mets in their following 4-game series on 6-3-2018. They would go on to win a 3-game home set versus the Philadelphia Phillies by winning game on 6-7-2018 by a 4-3 score. They would also go on to win game 1 of a 3-game home set versus the Pirates at Wrigley Field on 6-8-2018 by a 3-1 score.
For the season, the Cubs are averaging 5.17 runs per game (3rd) with a team batting average of .264 (2nd), 66 homers (18th) along with 27 stolen bases (18th). Their pitching staff has an ERA of 3.23 (3rd) with 528 strikeouts (15th) with 25 quality starts on the season, good for 16th in the MLB.
Kris Bryant (.292 BA on 212 AB), Kyle Schwarber (.256 BA on 172 AB), and Javier Baez (.258 BA on 221 AB) have spearheaded the Cubs offensive attack this year. Wilson Contreras has also been critical to the scoring attack with a batting average of .277 on 195 at bats.

How Chicago Cubs & Milwaukee Brewers Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
For the season, the Brewers are 37-26 ATS while the O/U is 24-37-2. On the other hand, the Cubs are 32-28 ATS while the O/U is 25-33-2.
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
Again, this will be a division matchup will huge implications. The Cubs are only roughly 2 games out of the top spot, so, a series win could very much position them to accomplish this goal. To ensure that they put themselves in the best possible position to set the tone for this series, the Cubs will bring Jose Quintana to the mound in hopes that he can remain solid as well as confuse the Brewer lineup throughout the night. Quintana will be looking for his 3rd win in 5 starts as he has only allowed 6 runs on 6 hits in his last 4 starts. Jonathan Villar (.429 BA on 7 AB), Lorenzo Cain (.273 BA on 55 AB), Hernan Perez (.250 BA on 12 AB), and Manny Pina (.333 BA on 3 AB) have had the most success against Quintana in the past. However, Jesus Aguilar (.167 BA on 12 AB), Orlando Arcia (0-5), Ryan Braun (.200 BA on 10 AB), Domingo Santana (0-5), and Travis Shaw (.071 on 14 AB) have had the least success and experience against the left-hander in recent outings.
Against The Spread Selection: Chicago Cubs
My reason for the pick :
If it were only a week ago, I would take the Brewers to win this game 1 matchup on Monday night; However, after their recent set of losses, I would not feel comfortable taking Milwaukee in this instance. They lost their 2nd series in a row on the road against the Indians on 6-6-2018 and despite a 12-4 romp of the Phillies on the-8-2018, I continue to feel as if Chicago is the better team and this will reveal itself at some point in this game, either on the mound or at the plate. The pitcher for the Brewers has not been named, however, Quintana on the mound will certainly increase the Cubbies chances of winning as the Cubs have won in 7 of his last 10 starts.
