Cleveland Indians vs Chicago White Sox

Game 2 of a 4-game set between the visiting Cleveland Indians and the Chicago White Sox will take place on Tuesday night at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago, Illinois, at 8:10 pm EST.  The Indians have won 11 of their last 17 games and occupy the 1st place slot within the AL Central division.  The White Sox have lost 10 of their last 15, yet, overall, remaining in last place within the division.  This will only be the 2nd matchup of the year amongst these two squads, however, the Indians got the sweep earlier in the season at Progressive Field in a 3-game set.

Cleveland Indians 's Latest Performance :

The Cleveland Indians come into this matchup winners of 3 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 1-4.  Recently, the Indians would lose a 4-game road set to the Minnesota Twins on 6-3-2018 while regaining their form in a short, 2-game home series versus the Milwaukee Brewers by getting the sweep on 6-6-2018.  The Indians would obtain even more momentum in game 1 of their current 3-game road set versus the Detroit Tigers as they picked up the 4-1 win on 6-8-2018.  The Tigers would tie the series in game 2 by picking up the 4-2 victory setting the stage for the finale on 6-10-2018.

For the season, the Indians are averaging 4.89 runs per game (6th) with a team batting average of .251 (12th), 92 homers (3rd) along with 36 stolen bases (9th).  Their pitching staff has an ERA of 4.17 (17th) with 559 strikeouts (10th), along with 40 quality starts, good for 2nd in the MLB.

Jose Ramirez (.294 BA on 235 AB) and Francisco Lindor (.285 BA on 256 AB) have spearheaded the Indians offensive attack this season.  Yonder Alonso (.245 BA on 204 AB) and Edwin Encarnacion (.244 BA on 214 AB) have struggled a bit, yet, continue to be offensive leaders for the Indians.  Jason Kipnis (.202 BA on 238 AB) has also struggled thus far in the young season.

The Indians also possesses a host of solid pitchers such as Corey Kluber (9-2, 91.2 IP, 22 R, 68 H, 11 HR, 10 BB, 95 SO, 1.96 ERA) and Trevor Bauer (5-4, 86 IP, 32 R, 70 H, 5 HR, 29 BB, 109 SO, 2.62 ERA) have been the most consistent thus far.  Mike Clevenger (4-2, 84.1 IP, 31 R, 73 H, 6 HR, 29 BB, 69 SO, 3.14 ERA) and Carlos Carrasco (7-4, 83 IP, 40 R, 79 H, 11 HR, 20 BB, 83 SO, 4.23 ERA) have been very solid in their own right thus far in the season and are bright spots for Cleveland’s pitching staff.

Chicago White Sox 's Latest Performance :

The Chicago White Sox have won 3 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 1-4.  Recently, the White Sox would take out a hot Brewers team at home on 6-3-2018 in a 3-game set.  They would tie the Minnesota Twins their following 4-game road set while also getting the huge 1-0 road win at Fenway Park over the Red Sox on 6-8-2018.  The Red Sox, however, were able to tie the series in game 2 due to a 4-2 victory.

For the season, the White Sox are averaging 3.89 runs per game (26th) with a team batting average of .243 (17th), 68 homers (18th), along with 53 stolen bases (1st).  Their pitching staff has an ERA of 4.82 (26th) with 451 strikeouts (30th) along with 25 quality starts this season (19th).

Tim Anderson (.242 BA on 219 AB), Yoan Moncada (.233 BA on 215 Ab), Yolmer Sanchez (.279 BA on 226 AB), and Jose Abreu (.295 BA on 241 AB) have been the offensive leaders for the White Sox this season.  Nicky Delmonico (.224 BA on 116 AB) and Matt Davidson (.231 BA on 156 AB) have also been solid at the plate this season.

Reynaldo Lopez (1-4, 71 IP, 31 R, 54 H, 7 HR, 31 BB, 48 SO, 3.42 ERA) and James Shields (1-7, 82.1 IP, 45 R, 73 H, 10 HR, 33 BB, 57 SO, 4.92 ERA) have pitched the most innings this year for the White Sox.

How Cleveland Indians & Chicago White Sox Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

For the season, the Indians are 27-35 ATS while the O/U is 33-27-2.  On the other hand, the White Sox are 34-28 ATS while the O/U is 26-31-5.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

After winning 5 of their last 8 games at one point, the White Sox’ momentum was clipped a bit losing 2 of their last 3 games, including a 4-2 road loss to the Boston Red Sox on 6-9-2018.  Righting the ship will not be easy as the White Sox have indeed struggled against the Indians in recent matchups.  Making it even more difficult for Chicago will be the appearance of Adam Plutko (3-0) on the mound for Cleveland.  In his last 3 starts, Plutko has been charged with 8 earned runs on 14 hits with an ERA of 3.93 for the season.  The over has been the play in 4 of his last 5 games.  The pitcher for the White Sox has not been named, however, the Sox pitching staff has surrendered 3.2 runs in their last 5 outings.  Plutko does not have much experience against this White Sox lineup, however, Jose Abreu (0-1), Tim Anderson (0-1) have gone hitless against him in the past.

Against The Spread Selection: Cleveland Indians

My reason for the pick :

Plutko has been solid on the mound in his last few starts and combine this with the fact that the Sox lineup has only averaged only 3.2 runs in their last 5 outings, one could say that this struggling offense could be in for yet another long 9 innings or less with this right-hander manning the mound.  In all, I will definitely take the Indians to once again assert their dominance over a White Sox team that has consistently struggled against Cleveland’s elite pitching in the past.  I would also look towards the under in this contest as well.
