Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Houston Astros vs Oakland Athletics

The Athletics will welcome the Astros to Oakland Coliseum as the teams from the AL West division will go head to head in a three-game series starting Tuesday. This will be their third meeting this season, the Astros leads the season series over the A’s 2-0. The A’s are 4th in the division while the Astros are in 2nd place.

Houston Astros's Latest Performance :

The Astros are on the verge of sweeping the Rangers, they are now 3-0 in their 10 game road trip. The Astros are a really solid team on the road they are 22-11 when playing away from home. They will be playing the A’s in a three-game series. The Astros remains the best pitching team in the Major with a 2.88 ERA on the season and 3rd in batting just behind the two giants Yankees and Red Sox with 325 runs scored this season, they are now 1/2 behind the Mariners after winning 4 straight games. The Astros are the first team to ever walk 10 and hit five batters in a game. The team is doing just fine without Correa in the lineup.

George Springer went 2 for 3 in his performance he is playing great for the Astros this season, he has the ability to carry the Astros offense on his back when the batters aren’t playing so well. The Astros will take the opportunity to take the lead once again in the AL West. He is putting together another terrific season offensively, slashing .292/.363/.506 with 13 homer and 40 RBIs. I expect him to lead the Astros offense against the A’s on the road.

Pitching for the Astros will be Lance McCullers. He seeks his third win over the A’s in 2018. The right-hander has allowed two earned runs over 12 innings with four walks and 10 strikeouts in two prior starts vs. Oakland. McCullers took a no-decision against the Mariners on Wednesday.

Oakland Athletics's Latest Performance :

The Athletics are currently on a 10 game homestand as they will prepare to face off against the World Series Champions Astros in a 3 game series. The A’s are 4th in the AL West division with a record of 33-32 on the season, they are coming off a shutout loss against the Royals as the team couldn’t generate any offense from their batter. The A’s were shutout for the 6th time this season. Chris Bassitt came through for the A’s in his debut game in place of an injured Trevor Cahill, he pitched through 7th innings allowing only one run. Coming into this series the A’s are 10th in batting with 286 runs scored this season and 14th in pitching with a 3.90 ERA. They face a tough challenge ahead playing against the World Series Champion the Astros the A’s will have to give it their all as they are 7 1/2 spot behind the Mariners for the top spot.

The A’s will need Khris Davis to play against the Astros as he is the team leader in RBIs with 46 on the season, he will have to bounce back from his 0 for 4 effort in his last outing. Davis needs to set an example to all his batters. Davis has four homers in five games and is now just three behind the AL leaders. He definitely got the talent to be great in the Major he just has to find ways to be consistent and be healthy for the rest of the way for the A’s to be relevant in the AL West again. He is slashing .242/.318/.530 with 17 homers, in order to be the best you must overcome the best pitching team.

Pitching for the A’s will be Daniel Mengden. He allowed seven runs total in six May starts, was roughed up for six runs in four innings in Arlington on Wednesday. The Rangers tagged him for four home runs. Mengden also walked three. He owns an ERA of 3.45 and a 1.02 WHIP.

How Houston Astros & Oakland Athletics Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Athletics are 1-5 in their last 6 after allowing 2 runs or less in their previous game.

Astros are 18-7 in their last 25 road games.

Against The Spread Selection: Houston Astros

My reason for the pick :

The Astros should be able to beat the A’s on the road as McCullers will pick up his 3rd straight win against the A’s. The Astros batters will come alive as the A’s will continue to struggle to find offense at home. The Astros are picking up where they left off from last year, it is hard not to go with the Astros when they are 1st in pitching and 3rd in batting.

Astros to beat out the A’s on the road as they win their 6th straight game and regain the lead on top of the AL West.

Betting trends for Houston Astros:

  • Astros are 35-16 in their last 51 vs. American League West.

Betting trends for Oakland Athletics:

  • Athletics are 13-5 in their last 18 games vs. a right-handed starter.
