Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
New York Mets vs Atlanta Braves
The Braves will welcome the Mets to SunTrust Park for game 2 of the two-game series. Both teams are from the NL East division, the Braves are in 2nd place while the Mets are in 4th place. This will be their 3rd meeting this season.
New York Mets's Latest Performance :
The Mets were able to avoid a series sweep against the Yankees as they were able to beat out, elite pitcher Luis Severino ending their 8 games losing streak. That snapped the Mets’ longest losing streak in 14 years and who would have thought they would win against the best team with the team best pitcher. Anything can happen in baseball. Seth Lugo came up huge for the team in the rubber game as he struck out eight battles while giving up no runs and two hits over six scoreless innings. The Mets are hoping that they can carry over the momentum on the road after the win against the Yankees, it won’t be an easy task for them as they will have to play the Braves in a two-game series.
Todd Frazier was the Mets hero ending the teams 8 game skid as he struck a two-run homer. His fifth-inning blast off of Luis Severino wound up being the only offense for either team in the ballgame. Frazier also singled and stole a base, finishing the night 2-for-4. He’s hitting .239/.344/.433 with seven homers and 24 RBI in his first season with the Mets. He is hoping that he can carry over his batting performance on the road when the team plays the Braves.
Pitching for the Mets will be Zack Wheeler. He has submitted quality starts in three of his last four outings, posting a 2.52 ERA over that stretch. That’s lowered his overall mark from 5.92 to 4.57. A Georgia native, Wheeler is 4-2 with a 2.94 career ERA against the Braves.
Atlanta Braves's Latest Performance :
The Braves weren’t able to pick up the series win against the Dodgers on the road as they allowed 7 runs in the rubber game. Braves have lost 4 of 6 during the road trip they have been struggling against the NL West teams they will be glad that the tough road trip is over. The Braves will return home as they will play the Mets in a 2 game set. The Braves are 16-12 when playing at home this season. There might be a possibility that Mike Soroka, Teheran, and Ronald Acuna might return to the team after spending quite some time on the DL list.
Ozzie Albies went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in his last performance, it is great to see that Ozzie is back scoring for the Braves after been struggling in May. It was the first multi-hit game for Albies, who entered the day just 3-for-36 (.083) with no homers or RBI. He will look to rediscover his swing after a tough road trip. He is slashing .256/.301/.498 with 36 RBIs and 15 homers.
Freddie Freeman continues to be hot for the Braves as he went 1-for-4 with a solo home run. He now has 12 homers on the season. He is 10-for-18 (.556) with three doubles, three homers and five RBI across his past five outings, and he is slashing .340/.430/.568 overall. I expect him to fill up the stat sheet when the Braves play the Mets at home.
Pitching for the Braves will be Mike Soroka. He will come off the disabled list to make his first start since May 12 in Miami. The 20-year-old righty has featured his sinker and slider in his first three career starts. He limited the Mets to one run in six innings in his May 1 MLB debut.
How New York Mets & Atlanta Braves Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Braves are 6-1 in their last 7 when their opponent allows 2 runs or less in their previous game.
Mets are 17-38 in their last 55 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
Against The Spread Selection: Atlanta Braves
My reason for the pick :
Despite beating out the Yankees in their last home game, I don’t see them beating out the Braves on the road especially when Ozzie is starting to regain his confidence on the plate. The Mets will still have difficulties to score on the road. I expect Frazier to have a good game but he will be overshadowed by the Braves batters at home. It is unfortunate for the Mets to be playing some really solid teams back to back.
Betting trends for New York Mets:
- Mets are 14-38 in their last 52 road games vs. a team with a winning record.
Betting trends for Atlanta Braves:
- Braves are 16-7 in their last 23 vs. National League East.
