San Diego Padres vs St. Louis Cardinals
The finale of a 3-game set between the visiting San Diego Padres and the St. Louis Cardinals will take place at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri, at 8:15 pm EST on Wednesday night. The Padres continue to occupy the last place slot within the NL West division while the Cardinals occupy 3rd place within the NL Central. This will be the 2nd meeting of the year amongst these two squads with both teams splitting a 4-game set at PetCo Park earlier in the year.
San Diego Padres's Latest Performance :
The Padres come into this matchup winners of 3 of their last 5 games to where the O/U has been 2-3. Recently, the Padres would win a 3-game home series with the Cincinnati Reds on 6-3-2018. They would also take this momentum into a 3-game home set versus the Atlanta Braves which they would win with the finale on 6-6-2018 was a 3-1 win for the Padres. This momentum would translate into their next series as they would pick up the 3-1 road win against the Miami Marlins to pick up the series win in the finale on 6-10-2018.
For the season, San Diego averages 3.90 runs per game (26th) with a team batting average of .234 (23rd), 60 homers (27th) and 40 stolen bases on the year (7th). Their pitching staff possesses an ERA of 4.21 (30th) with 576 strikeouts (9th) and 22 quality starts thus far (25th).
Jose Pirela (.276 BA on 257 AB), Eric Hosmer (.292 BA on 240 AB), and Freddy Galvis (.233 BA on 236 AB) have been the few bright spots for this San Diego squad.
Tyson Ross (5-3) has pitched 76 innings while allowing 32 runs on 66 hits, 7 homers, 28 walks, and 78 strikeouts with an ERA of 3.43 has also been solid at the mound. Clayton Richard (5-6) has been improving for the Padres this season and has pitched 88 innings while allowing 44 runs on 80 hits, 9 homers, 30 walks, and 71 strikeouts with an ERA of 4.40.
St. Louis Cardinals's Latest Performance :
The Cardinals have won 3 of their last 5 games where the O/U was 3-2. Recently, the Cards would win a 4-game home set versus the Pittsburgh Pirates on 6-3-2018 while going on to lose a 3-game home set against the lowly Miami Marlins on 6-7-2018. Nonetheless, they got back into the win column with a 7-6 win versus the Reds on the road on 6-8-2018 while also winning game 2 of a 3-game road set by a 6-4 score on their way to winning the series on 6-10-2018, despite losing the finale by a score of 6-3.
For the season, the Cardinals are averaging 4.32 runs per game (16th) with a team batting average of .242 (19th), 77 homers (13th), along with 25 stolen bases (24th). Their pitching staff has an ERA of 3.61 (8th) with 528 strikeouts (21st) and 28 quality starts on the year (14th).

How San Diego Padres & St. Louis Cardinals Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

In-Depth Analysis of each team:
Can the Padres end yet another series on a positive note? We will certainly await the results of game 3 against the Cardinals to witness if indeed the Padres can continue their recent winning play in the finale of this 3-game set. Coming to the mound for San Diego will be Eric Lauer (2-4) who will be seeking his 2nd win in 3 starts while Luke Weaver (3-5) will make the start for the Cardinals. Weaver has not won a start since 5-11-2018 where he was outstanding allowing no runs on 4 hits in a 9-5 road win versus the Padres. Lauer, on the other hand, has allowing 9 earned runs in his last 3 starts while giving up 3 runs on 6 hits in his last outing, a 4-0 road loss to the Miami Marlins on 6-8-2018. The Over was the play in 3 of Lauer’s last 5 starts while the under has been the result in 3 of Weaver’s last 5 outings. This will be Lauer’s first matchup against this Cardinals lineup, however, Weaver has had experience facing Freddy Galvis (.1-2), Jose Pirela (1-3), Manuel Margot (0-3), and Cory Spangenberg (0-2) in the past.
Against The Spread Selection: St. Louis Cardinals
My reason for the pick :
The Cardinals are 19-14 at home this year and are looking to continue their winning play at Busch Stadium against a Padres team that always play them well. I will have to side with the Cardinals in that most of the Padre wins in their recent streak were at PetCo Park. Now, of course, teams often gain an extreme amount of momentum simply by winning, the Padres have not shown this season that they can win on the road, period. Furthermore, Weaver has had decent outings against the major hitters within the Padre lineup, so, I expect the Cards to come out focus and play strong against San Diego in which to carry even more momentum moving forward.
