Toronto Blue Jays vs Tampa Bay Rays
The finale of a 3-game set between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Tampa Bay Rays will take place at Tropicana Field in Tampa, Florida, on Wednesday afternoon at 1:10 pm EST. The Rays have indeed struggled this year and continue to occupy the 4th place spot within the division. The Jays have been reeling as well losing 7 of their last 12 games, yet, winning 4-striaght and continue to occupy 3rd place within the AL East division. This will be the 2nd meeting of the year amongst these two squads with the Rays taking 2 of 3 earlier in the season.
Toronto Blue Jays 's Latest Performance :
The Blue Jays are winners of 4 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 1-4. On 6-3-2018, the Jays lost yet another series, this against the surging Detroit Tigers on the road before being swept once again in a short, 2-game home set versus the dangerous NY Yankees on 6-6-2018. Nonetheless, the Jays have indeed recovered against AL East basement team Baltimore Orioles as they would obtain the sweep on 6-10-2018 with a huge 13-3 victory in the finale.
For the season, the Toronto Blue Jays are averaging 4.60 runs per game (8th) with a team batting average of .234 (24th), 84 homers (5th) along with 23 stolen bases (25th). Their pitching staff has an ERA of 4.57 (23rd) with 545 strikeouts (18th) along with 25 quality starts on the season (22nd).
Kevin Pillar (.266 BA on 244 AB), Justin Smoak (.240 BA on 208 AB), and Yangervis Solarte (.256 BA on 246 AB) have been the offensive spearheads for the Toronto Blue Jays this season.
Pitcher JA Happ (8-3, 77.2 IP, 35 R, 62 H, 10 HR, 22 BB, 90 SO with an ERA of 3.71) has been the most consistent pitcher for the Blue Jay’s bullpen this year. Aaron Sanchez (3-5, 72.2 IP, 38 R, 67 H, 8 HR, 42 BB, 58 SO with an ERA of 4.33) has also been a pivotal piece to the rotation, despite his lackluster performances this season.
Tampa Bay Rays's Latest Performance :
The Tampa Bay Rays have lost 4 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 4-1. Recently, the Rays would get swept in a 3-game road set versus the Mariners on 6-3-2018. In addition to this, they would also get swept by the Washington Nationals on the road on 6-6-2018. They would also go on to lose a 4-game set versus the Mariners at home due to a 5-4 loss in the finale on 6-10-2018.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:
J.A. Happ (8-3), who is having an incredibly solid season despite the troubles the Blue Jays have had, will be coming to the mound fresh off a 5-1 home win versus the Orioles in which he allowed only 1 run on 2 hits on 6-8-2018. Matt Duffy (.429 BA on 7 AB), Carlos Gomez (.286 BA on 7 AB), Rob Refsnyder (1-3) have the most experience and success against Happ in the past. C. J. Cron (.167 BA on 12 AB) and Jesus Sucre (0-3), however, have not fared as well against the lefty in recent matchups. Happ will be looking for his 5th win in 6 starts on Wednesday while also looking to keep in tact his current earned run average (1.6/game). The pitcher for the Rays have not been named, however, in their last 5 games, pitching has given up 5.6 runs per game.
Against The Spread Selection: Toronto Blue Jays
My reason for the pick :
With Happ coming to the hill in the finale on Wednesday, I must say that I have confidence that he will indeed confuse his upcoming opposing batters with his pitching style. It is for this reason that I will say that Happ will certainly put the Blue Jays in a position in which to get yet another win under their belt along with gain much more confidence and consistency from which they can build upon for the future. The Rays simply continue to struggle and cannot be trusted at home where they are only 12-15 on the year. In all, the Blue Jays have played terrible this year yet have made the Rays their victim earlier in the year. With that being said, due to the fact that they have pulled out some much-needed wins recently while the Rays continue to reel, I will back Toronto hoping that they can show and prove if their current play is not a fluke.
