Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Boston Red Sox vs Seattle Mariners

The Mariners will welcome the Red Sox to Safeco Field as the two teams will go head to head in a four-game series starting Thursday. The Mariners are first in the AL West division while the Red Sox are 2nd in the AL East division. This will be their first meeting of the season, it would be a great challenge for both teams.

Boston Red Sox's Latest Performance :

The Red Sox were able to start things off on the right foot by opening their 10 game road trip with a win against the O’s. The Red Sox have been great all season long on the road they are 22-11. Playing against the Mariners in a four-game set will be quite a challenge even for the Red Sox, the Mariners has really surprised a lot of teams this year and considering it is their first time meeting anything could happen. Coming into this series the Red Sox are the best batting team in the Major with 343 runs scored this season and they are also 5th best in pitching with an ERA of 3.85.

Andrew Benintendi went 2-for-3 with two walks. He also stole a base, his 11th of the year. He has been red-hot for over a month now and his lifted his season slash line to .298/.382/.547. There should be no let-up from the 23-year-old budding star. Mookie Betts will be ready for the Mariners for this game on the road as he is just getting himself into shape getting back to his old routines after returning from the DL list. Mookie should have a huge impact on the series opener against the Mariners so keep your eye on Betts when he steps on to the plate. His line this season prior to the injury is .354/.431/.735 with 37 RBIs and an impressive 17 homers.

Pitching for the Red Sox will be David Price. He allowed two runs in six innings to earn a win over the White Sox on Saturday. He surrendered five hits and three walks while fanning three in the quality start. He is 7-4 on the season pitching for the Red Sox. He owns a 4.00 ERA and 1.25 WHIP through 13 starts.

Seattle Mariners's Latest Performance :

The Mariners will cap off their 7 game homestand as they will be going up against the Red Sox in a four-game series. The Mariners are starting to look like a legit playoffs team with the way they are currently playing. The Mariners are on top of the AL West division with a record of 42-24. Coming into this series the Mariners are 12th in batting with 289 runs scored this season and 13th in pitching with a 3.84 ERA. They have now won 9 of their last 11 games. They are 21-12 when playing at home this season. The Mariners will be looking to continue their dominance at home against the Red Sox.

Nelson Cruz went two-for-three with a pair of homers. He also drew a walk. Cruz now has 15 homers on the season. Both came off of Andrew Heaney; a two-run shot in the first and a solo blast in the fourth. Cruz has been exceptional with the bat as of late, and he now has five homers in the month of June. After battling injuries earlier in the season, he now has his OPS up to .876 with 36 RBI over 53 games. I expect that he should be able to carry over his impressive batting into the series against the Red Sox.

Pitching for the Mariners will be Felix Hernandez. He is coming off his shortest start of the year, allowing six runs (five earned) on seven hits in three innings in a 7-3 loss at Tampa Bay on Saturday. He’s allowed five earned runs in four of his last seven starts. He will face a tough challenge going up against the Red Sox batters.

How Boston Red Sox & Seattle Mariners Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Mariners are 5-1 in their last 6 when their opponent allows 5 runs or more in their previous game.

Red Sox are 22-8 in their last 30 road games vs. a right-handed starter.

Against The Spread Selection: Boston Red Sox

My reason for the pick :

This should end up in a tight contest but in the end, Price will pick his 8th win of the season as the Red Sox will steal the series opener from the Mariners. Betts should be able to rediscover his old form as he should be able to crack open Hernandez pitches. The Red Sox will show the Mariners what playoff baseball looks like.

The Red Sox to win on the road over the Mariners.

  • Red Sox are 21-10 in their last 31 road games.
