Cleveland Indians vs Chicago White Sox
The finale of a 4-game set between the visiting Cleveland Indians and the Chicago White Sox will take place on Thursday afternoon at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago, Illinois, at 2:10 pm EST. The Indians have been able to continue their consistent play and occupy the 1st place slot within the AL Central division. The White Sox, on the other hand, have lost 10 of their last 16 and remaining in 4th place within the division. This will only be the 2nd matchup of the year amongst these two squads, however, the Indians got the sweep earlier in the season at Progressive Field in a 3-game set.
Cleveland Indians 's Latest Performance :
The Cleveland Indians come into this matchup winners of 4 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 1-4. Recently, the Indians would lose a 4-game road set to the Minnesota Twins on 6-3-2018 while regaining their form in a short, 2-game home series win versus the Milwaukee Brewers on 6-6-2018. The Indians will obtain even more momentum in their following series as they would pick up yet another 3-game road win versus the Detroit Tigers as they pulled out the 9-2 victory in the finale on 6-10-2018. They would continue this with a 4-0 win over the Chicago White Sox on 6-11-2018.
For the season, the Indians are averaging 4.94 runs per game (6th) with a team batting average of .252 (8th), 94 homers (3rd) along with 41 stolen bases (6th). Their pitching staff has an ERA of 4.07 (17th) with 582 strikeouts (8th), along with 42 quality starts, good for 2nd in the MLB.
Jose Ramirez (.290 BA on 245 AB) and Francisco Lindor (.287 BA on 265 AB) have spearheaded the Indians offensive attack this season. Yonder Alonso (.246 BA on 211 AB) and Edwin Encarnacion (.244 BA on 213 AB) have struggled a bit, yet, continue to be offensive leaders for the Indians. Jason Kipnis (.202 BA on 238 AB) has also struggled thus far in the young season.
Corey Kluber (10-2, 99.2 IP, 24 R, 73 H, 12 HR, 10 BB, 103 SO, 1.99 ERA) and Trevor Bauer (5-4, 86 IP, 32 R, 70 H, 5 HR, 29 BB, 109 SO, 2.62 ERA) have been the most consistent thus far. Mike Clevenger (4-2, 84.1 IP, 31 R, 73 H, 6 HR, 29 BB, 69 SO, 3.31 ERA) and Carlos Carrasco (8-4, 90 IP, 40 R, 81 H, 11 HR, 21 BB, 94 SO, 3.90 ERA) have been very solid in their own right thus far in the season and are bright spots for Cleveland’s pitching staff.
Chicago White Sox's Latest Performance :
The Chicago White Sox have lost 3 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 1-4. Recently, the White Sox would tie the Minnesota Twins in a 4-game road set while also getting the huge 3-game road series win at Fenway Park over the Red Sox on 6-10-2018. They would, however, lose in game 1 of a 4-game home set versus the Cleveland Indians on 6-11-2018.
For the season, the White Sox are averaging 3.84 runs per game (26th) with a team batting average of .240 (21st), 68 homers (19th), along with 54 stolen bases (1st). Their pitching staff has an ERA of 4.75 (24th) with 468 strikeouts (30th) along with 26 quality starts this season (18th).
Tim Anderson (.237 BA on 234 AB), Yoan Moncada (.232 BA on 224 Ab), Yolmer Sanchez (.270 BA on 233 AB), and Jose Abreu (.290 BA on 248 AB) have been the offensive leaders for the White Sox this season. Nicky Delmonico (.224 BA on 116 AB) and Matt Davidson (.220 BA on 164 AB) have also been solid at the plate this season.
Reynaldo Lopez (2-4, 77.1 IP, 33 R, 60 H, 7 HR, 34 BB, 54 SO, 3.26 ERA) and James Shields (1-7, 82.1 IP, 45 R, 73 H, 10 HR, 33 BB, 57 SO, 4.92 ERA) have pitched the most innings this year for the White Sox.
How Cleveland Indians & Chicago White Sox Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
For the season, the Indians are 29-35 ATS while the O/U is 34-28-2. On the other hand, the White Sox are 35-29 ATS while the O/U is 26-33-5.
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
The White Sox have struggled all season, yet, they have won 6 of their last 11 games, recently, and send Carlos Rodon (0-1) out to the mound in which to continue their momentum. Rodon is 0-1 with an ERA of 3.60 with 7 strikeouts while being credited with 10 runs on 15 hits in his last 3 starts. Rajai Davis (.316 BA on 19 AB), Jose Ramirez (.333 BA on 15 AB), Roberto Perez (.250 BA on 8 AB), Jason Kipnis (.222 BA on 27 AB), and Francisco Lindor (.222 BA on 18 AB) have the most experience and success against Rodon in the past. Yonder Alonso (.167 BA on 6 AB), Michael Brantley (.143 BA on 14 AB), and Yan Gomes (.125 BA on 8 AB) have not fared as well against the left-hander in the past. Edwin Encarnacion and Lonnie Chisenhall are a combined 0-7 against Rodon in their careers. With decent success against Rodon, it will be interesting to see how the Cleveland lineup attacks him early on. On the other hand, the pitching staff for the Indians should be able to cool off an inconsistent White Sox lineup that has averaged a tad over 2 runs per game in their last few outings.
Against The Spread Selection: Cleveland Indians
My reason for the pick :
While the White Sox should be given credit as to how they performed this past weekend against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park, the finale against the Indians will carry much more important ramifications. The Indians are looking to fend off a surging Cubs team in which to hang on to the top spot within the NL Central division. Furthermore, they are looking to maintain their current wining stretch of baseball winning 13 of their last 16 outings to where the O/U was 11-7-1. In all, I expect the Indians to have a great performance in the finale in which to garner up even more momentum for the series ahead: A 3-game home set versus the Twins beginning on 6-15-2018.
