Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Colorado Rockies vs Philadelphia Phillies
The Phillies will welcome the Rockies to Citizens Bank Park as the two teams will go head to head in 3 game series. The Phillies are 3rd in the NL East while the Rockies are 4th in the NL West division. With both teams trying to land a spot in the postseason I expect a very high level of baseball being played in this game.
Colorado Rockies's Latest Performance :
The Rockies will be glad to be playing on the road again as the team road record this season is 21-14. However, the Rockies took quite a beating in their last homestand as they got swept by their division rivals the D-Backs, as a result, the Rockies are now in 4th place in the division with a record of 32-33. Coming into this series the Rockies are 13th in batting with 288 runs scored this season, they will have to play well against the Phillies as they are now 4 games behind the D-Backs for the top spot in the division.
Trevor Story must play will for the Rockies on the road against the Phillies. He is the team leader in RBIs and homers 47 and 17 respectively. His 47 RBIs leads the National West. He is hitting .255/.335/.519 with 32 runs scored and eight steals as well. He is definitely on-pace of having a breakout year. He hopes the team gets things rolling on the road after an embarrassing loss at home against the D-Backs. Nolan Areando leads NL third basemen in voting he is slashing .314/.407/.549 with 12 home runs and 36 RBI. I expect both of them to show up on the road against the Phillies.
Pitching for the Rockies will be German Marquez. He gave up three homers in one inning in his last start, a home loss to the D-backs. On the road, however, he has a 2.06 ERA in six starts. He will have to be at his best because pitching against the Phillies on the road won’t be an easy task.
Philadelphia Phillies's Latest Performance :
The Phillies will be capping off their 6 game homestand as they will be hosting the Rockies in a 3 game set. The Phillies are a really good team at home this season they are 20-11 on the year, they are only 3 games behind the leader the Nationals so they are still within reach of grabbing the top spot of the division if they continue to play well at home, however, if the Phillies are able to figure out their woes on the road they should be a team that everyone should keep an eye on. Coming into this series the Phillies 12th in pitching with a 3.72 ERA. The Phillies will have to do a better job as a team on the plate as the team is ranked 24th in scoring with 264 runs scored this year.
Carlos Santana must show up for the Phillies at home when they play the Rockies, he is the team leader in RBIs with 37 on the season. He is now hitting .221/.342/.432 with 10 homers. He has been a major disappointment in the batting average department this season. After a great start to the year he hasn’t been able to hit the ball lately, the team hopes he can turn it around against the Rockies. Odubel Herrera will hope he can extend his run on-base streak as the streak is currently at 45. He has 33 RBI and 27 runs scored. He is slashing .288/.350/.436 on the season. The Phillies do have quality batters on the team the only thing this team lacks right now is consistency.
Pitching for the Phillies will be Vince Velasquez. He allowed a career-high 10 runs in 3 2/3 innings Friday against the Brewers. He went 3-2 with a 2.14 ERA in his previous six starts. He struck out 45 and walked 13 in 33 2/3 innings in that successful six-start stretch.
How Colorado Rockies & Philadelphia Phillies Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Phillies are 1-4 in their last 5 when their opponent allows 5 runs or more in their previous game.
Rockies are 4-1 in their last 5 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600.
Against The Spread Selection: Colorado Rockies
My reason for the pick :
The Rockies should be able to win on the road against the Phillies, the Phillies might be a great team at home this season but Velasquez won’t have a good day on the mound as he is still thinking about the 10 runs he gave up against the Brewers. The Rockies batters should be able to take advantage of his pitches early as the Rockies are starting to look like the team who were just on top of the NL West division weeks ago.
Betting trends for Colorado Rockies:
- Rockies are 5-0 in their last 5 road games vs. a team with a winning record.
Betting trends for Philadelphia Phillies:
- Phillies are 7-3 in their last 10 home games vs. a team with a losing record.
