Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Minnesota Twins vs Detroit Tigers
The Tigers will welcome the Twins to Comerica Park as the two teams will be playing in a 3 game series. The Tigers are 2nd in the AL Central division while the Twins are in 3rd place. This will be their 2nd meeting of the year with the Twins leading the season series 1-0.
Minnesota Twins's Latest Performance :
The Twins will begin their road trip against the Tigers, the Twins haven’t been great at all on the road this year they are 11-17 as they will travel to Detroit to play a very good home team. The Twins aren’t having a great year this season they have a losing record of 28-34 ranking them 3rd in the AL Central division. The Twins are ranked 18th in pitching with a 4.20 ERA and 23rd in scoring with 265 runs on the year. This will be the Twins opportunity to cut into the gap and make themselves relevant in the division again.
Eduardo Escobar was the American Leauge player of the week, he has to play well despite the terrible road record this year. He is on pace for the best season of his career. He has a .288/.340/.568 slash line with 12 home runs, 39 RBI and 31 runs scored in 59 games. He is the best option for the Twins on offense this season he has really separated himself out of the pack as he hit .462/.500/1.000 with two homers 6 doubles, a triple and 8 RBIs over the past week alone. I expect him to do well against the Tigers but Escobar will be hoping that his teammates will have his back as well.
Pitching for the Twins will be Lance Lynn. He has thrown at least six innings and allowed two runs or fewer in each of his last four outings dating back to May 22. In his most recent start on June 8, he struck out seven against the Angels and lowered his ERA to 5.08 on the season.
Detroit Tigers's Latest Performance :
The Tigers will cap off their 6 game homestand as they will be playing against the Twins in a 3 game series. The Tigers are a really good team when playing at home this season they are 21-16 on the year. Coming into this series the Tigers are 17th in scoring with 279 runs scored this season and 21st in pitching with a 4.30 ERA on the season. They now trail the leader Indians by 5 1/2 game. They were able to pick up a single win at home against the Indians.
Nicholas Castellanos will have to be on his A game as the team will need his offensive production against the Twins, he is the team leader in RBIs with 34 on the season. The Tigers will need to end this homestand on a strong note after losing out against the Indians in the previous series because the next thing the Tigers want on their mind is for the Twins to close the gap in second place of the division, it is hard enough to keep up with the Indians because they keep on pulling away. Castellanos is slashing .321/.360/.496 with 6 homers on the year.
Pitching for the Tigers will be Michael Fulmer. He looked more like his All-Star form in his last start, delivering seven innings of one-run ball with seven strikeouts against a Cleveland lineup that hit him hard in their previous meetings. His fastball crept back up to 98 mph with a sinker.
How Minnesota Twins & Detroit Tigers Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Tigers are 4-1 in their last 5 games vs. a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30.
Twins are 2-6 in their last 8 road games vs. a left-handed starter.
Against The Spread Selection: Detroit Tigers
My reason for the pick :
The Tigers should be able to maintain their impressive home record against the Twins as they will be able to bounce back from the series loss against the Indians. Escobar will put up big numbers as usual but his lone effort won’t be enough to beat the Tigers at home, they will be more determined to win after failing to close the gap on top of the division. Fulmer will put up a masterful pitching performance as he will be able to shut down the Twins batters.
The Tigers to win at home over the Twins.
