Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Tampa Bay Rays vs NY Yankees

Game 1 of a 4-game set between the Tampa Bay Rays and the NY Yankees will take place at Yankee Stadium in New York, New York, on Thursday night at 7:05 pm EST.  The Rays currently occupy 3rd place within the AL East while the Yankees are ranked 1st in the division after winning 9 of their last 11 games.  This will be the 2nd meeting of the year amongst these teams with the Yankees winning 2 of 3 at home on 4-4-2018 with game 1 being postponed due to weather conditions.

Tampa Bay Rays 's Latest Performance :

The Tampa Bay Rays have lost 3 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 4-1.  Recently, the Rays would get swept in a 3-game road set versus the Mariners on 6-3-2018.  In addition to this, they would also get swept by the Washington Nationals on the road on 6-6-2018.  They would also go on to lose a 4-game home set versus the Seattle Mariners on 6-10-2018 by suffering the 8-4 defeat in the finale.

The Rays are averaging 4.12 runs per game (24th) with a team batting average of .257 (6th), 62 homers (26th), along with 37 stolen bases on the year (11th).  Their pitching staff has an ERA of 4.01 (15th) with 545 strikeouts (19th) and 19 quality starts (28th).

Mallex Smith (.288 BA on 198 AB), Joey Wendle (.278 BA on 180 AB) Adeiny Hechavarria (.273 BA on 132 AB) spearhead the offensive attack from the plate for the O’s while C.J. Cron (.256 BA on 246 AB), Matt Duffy (.320 BA on 200 AB), and Denard Span (.238 BA on 143 AB) are also critical to the Baltimore offense.

Blake Snell (8-3) has pitched 82.1 innings this season and allowed 23 runs on 56 hits, 9 homers, 25 walks, and 89 strikeouts with an ERA of 2.30.  Chris Archer (3-4) has pitched 76.1 while allowing 37 runs on 76 hits, 9 homers, 26 walks, 76 strikeouts with an ERA of 4.24 for the season.

NY Yankees 's Latest Performance :

The Yankees have won 4 of their last 5 matchups to where the O/U was 0-5.  Recently, the Yankees would remain hot in winning games 2 and 3 of a 4-game road set against the struggling Baltimore Orioles to win the series with games 1 and 4 being postponed due to weather conditions.  The Yankees would tie the Detroit Tigers in their following series on 6-4-2018 while whipping up on and disposing of the Toronto Blue Jays in a 2-game road set on 66-2018.  They would also go on to win ‘Subway Series’ 2018 by picking up the 2-1 win in a 3-game set at CitiField against the reeling Mets this past weekend.

For the season, the Yankees average 5.45 runs per game (1st) with a team batting average of .252 (10th), 103 home runs (1st), along with 30 stolen bases (17th).  Their pitching staff has an ERA of 3.57 (7th) with 631 strikeouts (3rd), along with 31 quality starts on the season (8th).

Aaron Judge (.270 BA on 226 AB), Didi Gregorius (.243 BA on 222 AB), and Brett Gardner (.263 BA on 213 AB) have been outstanding for the Yankees this year at the plate.  Giancarlo Stanton (.244 BA on 238 AB) and Miguel Andujar (.310 BA on 203 AB) have also been solid at the plate thus far.

On the other hand, Luis Severino (9-2) has pitched 91 innings while allowing 24 runs on 64 hits, 5 homers, 23 walks, and 109 strikeouts with an ERA of 2.27 while  Masahiro Tanaka(7-2) is also an important piece to the Yankee pitching staff as he has pitched 72.2 innings while allowing 39 runs on 60 hits, 16 homers, 19 walks, and 73 strikeouts with an ERA of 4.58.

How Tampa Bay Rays & NY Yankees Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

For the season, the Rays are 36-29 ATS while the O/U is 31-31-3.  On the other hamd, the Yankees are 35-26 ATS while the O/U is 32-27-2.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

The Yankees are on a major high these days and after a winning the Subway Series against the Mets, the Yankees are looking to settle in at home against the Rays in a 4-game set at Yankee Stadium.  The pitchers for the matchup has not been named, however, the Rays pitching staff have certainly been in contrast to the staff for the Yanks, recently.  The Yankees pitching has given up only 8 runs in their last 5 outings while the Rays staff has surrendered 5.6 runs in their last 5.  Of course, the Yanks are already the better offensive team, so, if the pitching can hold its water, as they have done this season, they should have no major problems in this matchup on Thursday.

Against The Spread Selection: New York Yankees

My reason for the pick :

I will most certainly back the Yankees in this matchup in that they are clicking on all cylinders in their current winning streak.  Combine this with the fact they they were promoted to 1st place within the AL East division recently due to their winning play, New York will indeed have much to play for against one of their division foes in the Rays.  While the pitchers have not been determined, as stated, I will feel content in taking the Yankees to shine in game 1 in which to set the overall tone of what should be an interesting series at Yankee Stadium this weekend.
