Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Chicago Cubs vs St. Louis Cardinals

The Cardinals will welcome the Cubs to Busch Stadium as the two teams from the NL Central division will go head to head in a 3 game series. The Cardinals are 3rd in the division while the Cubs are in second. This will be their 3rd meeting of the season with the Cardinals leading the season series 1-0. The second meeting the series ended in a 1-1 split.

Chicago Cubs 's Latest Performance :

The Cubs will finish off their 6 game road trip as they will take on the Cardinals in a three-game set. The Cubs are now in the second place of the NL Central division with a record of 38-26 and with only 1/2 back of the Brewers. Depending on how well they play in the rubber game they have a chance to take the division lead from the Brewers. Coming in this series the Cubs are 2nd best in pitching with a 3.18 ERA they have been pitching really well this season. The Cubs are 19-13 on the road.

Kris Bryant will look to bounce back from his slump as he went 0 for 4 and has extended his homerless streak to a career-high 24. He is hitless in his last 16 at-bats, striking out 6 times. He is hoping he can end the skid when he plays against the Cards on the road. He only needs one game to regain his confidence again although it might take him some time he must understand that going through bad stretches is just part of the game. He is slashing .281/.391/.481 with 8 homers and 29 RBIs.

Pitching for the Cubs will be Jon Lester. He has not given up a run in his last two outings, going seven innings both times, and he’s 5-1 with a 1.63 ERA in his last eight starts. He’s 1-0 in two starts vs. the Cardinals, giving up two earned runs over 11 1/3 innings.

St. Louis Cardinals's Latest Performance :

The Cards will cap off a 6 game homestand as they will take on the Cubs in a 3 game series, the Cards are 20-15 when playing at home this season. Coming into this series the Cardinals are 20th in scoring with 279 runs scored this season. One of the reasons why the Cards are playing this season is because of their pitching they have got elite pitchers that can singlehandedly put the team in a position to win, they are 8th best in the Major with a 3.59 ERA. Playing against the Cubs at home will give the Cards the opportunity to cut into the standings as they are only 3 games behind the Brewers for the number one spot in the division.

Yadier Molina went 0-for-4 and plated a run with an RBI groundout as he will look to bounce back against the Cubs when they visit. He hit a grounder softly enough in the seventh inning to allow Tommy Pham to score from third base. The Cardinals couldn’t get much offense going at all in this one against a host of Padres relievers, as they tallied just five singles and a couple runs. Molina is hitting just .231 in seven games since returning from the disabled list and his batting line for the season is down to .264/.284/.421. The Cards are having a hard time generating runs in these couple of games as they were only able to score 16 runs in 3 games.

Pitching for the Cardinals will be Michael Wacha. He is having a career year, having won his last eight decisions. He has faced the Cubs once this season, and the Cardinals won 4-3 on May 6. He allowed two runs on six hits in 5 1/3 innings.

How Chicago Cubs & St. Louis Cardinals Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Cardinals are 20-8 in their last 28 when their opponent scores 2 runs or less in their previous game.

Cubs are 7-3 in their last 10 vs. National League Central.

Against The Spread Selection: St. Louis Cardinals

My reason for the pick :

This will be a very close game as both teams are pitching extremely well, but I have to go with the home team on this game as the Cardinals will beat out the Cubs at home as they close the gap in the standings. Kris Bryant will continue to struggle on the road as the Cardinals still maintain a strong home record. This game will be a very low scoring contest.

Betting trends for Chicago Cubs :

  • Cubs are 5-1 in their last 6 road games.

Betting trends for St. Louis Cardinals:

  • Cardinals are 4-1 in their last 5 overall.
