Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Cincinnati Reds vs Pittsburgh Pirates
The fifth-place Cincinnati Reds visit the fourth place Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park on Friday night in a battle of the NL Central’s two worst teams. Pittsburgh is eight games out while the Reds are in double digits at 16. It helps that the Reds are coming in on a 2-game win streak and the Pirates on a 2-game skid, but that just might not matter for either team.
Chad Kuhl (4-4, 3.95 ERA) will get the start for Pittsburgh and he’ll face-off against fellow right-hander, Matt Harvey (1-4, 5.97 ERA).
Cincinnati Reds's Latest Performance :
It took the Reds 10 innings to down the struggling Kansas City Royals on Tuesday 5-1 behind Joey Votto’s bases-loaded triple in the tenth. The Reds have managed to scrape together back-to-back wins and are looking to continue that streak against a highly volatile Pittsburgh Pirates team who can’t seem to scrape together two wins to save their lives. Sal Romano managed to pitch eight innings in that game to keep the streak alive.
Not that they have much of a choice, but the Reds have signed every single one of their draft picks from the first 10 rounds except for their top pick, Jonathan India. Hopefully, for the Reds, these draft picks will prove more fruitful than the $28.5M they spent on international disappointments, Vladimir Guitierrez, Alfredo Rodriguez, and Jose Garcia.
Pittsburgh Pirates's Latest Performance :
The Pirates are coming off of a sloppy loss to the surging first-place Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday night allowing 13 runs in a lopsided 13-8 hitting clinic by D’backs slugger Jon Jay which included a 3-run homer. The Pirates have also managed to lose their eighth consecutive series and have dropped 18 of their last 24 games.
Needless to say, they need some help from somewhere. Clearly not firing on any cylinders, their season is quickly in jeopardy and any losses to the Reds in this series could prove fatal.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:
The Pittsburgh Pirates match up well with the Cincinnati Reds, but with the losses stacking up, it makes for an interesting game. The Reds didn’t exactly beat a quality team in the Royals, but one has to wonder if the Pirates are forever in a downward spiral. Harvey and Kuhl aren’t exactly setting the league on fire with their pitching considering they are a combined 5-8 as starters.
Look for someone, anyone, to step up in this game and make a statement.
