Colorado Rockies vs Texas Rangers
The Colorado Rockies are set to take on the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Park in Arlington, TX on Friday night for the first game in their 3-game series. Both teams are coming off of 5-game losing streaks with the Rockies going 2-8 in their last 10 and the Rangers going 3-7. The Rockies are only five games back in the NL West while the Rangers are a distant 17 games back in the AL West.
Neither of these teams has made an impact in their respective divisions this year nor will they ever be a threat. It will prove to be an interesting series given one streak will end while a new one starts. Lefty Mike Minor (4-4, 5.65 ERA) goes up against Rockies righty Chad Bettis (4-1, 4.40 ERA) in a battle of losing streaks.
Colorado Rockies's Latest Performance :
The Rockies have a series of issues. One of them is, they can’t seem to win at home. The road has been much kinder to them which might be to their benefit in the 3-game series. The biggest concern is their woeful bullpen. Bryan Shaw was yanked out of the game after 1/3 of an inning for allowing 3 runs in the seventh against the Dodgers on June 2nd. Like Manager Bud Black said, “pitching is paramount to winning.”
Texas Rangers's Latest Performance :
The Rangers are in a slump like no other and struggling mightily to rack up significant wins. Luckily, this is a non-divisional game, but come on. Al Davis’s, “just win baby” certainly doesn’t apply here. The Rangers were routed by the LA Dodgers on Tuesday 12-5 at Dodgers Stadium resulting in loss number five in a row.
The bullpen isn’t helping matters either. The ageless Bartolo Colon was scorched for seven runs in the fourth against the Dodgers proving maybe age isn’t just a number. Someone has to step up and end the skid.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:
These two teams are near the bottom of the barrel and don’t seem to be improving. It always makes for an interesting match-up when teams are in a slump. It boils down to who wants to win more. Chad Bettis is 4-1 for the Rockies and could prove to be a challenge for Ranger hitters. At least in the early innings. This shouldn’t be a battle of pitchers, at the end of the day, it will boil down to a battle of wills to win.
