Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Philadelphia Phillies vs Milwaukee Brewers
The Brewers will welcome the Phillies to Miller Park as the two teams will go head to head in 3 game series. The Brewers are first in the NL Central division while the Phillies are 3rd in the NL East. This will be their first meeting of the season.
Philadelphia Phillies's Latest Performance :
The Phillies will hit the road for a short road trip as they will take on the NL Central division leader the Brewers in a three-game series. The Phillies are not a very strong road team this season they are 13-19 when playing away from home. The Phillies are now in 3rd place with a record of 34-30 they are only 3 games behind the division leader the Braves. Coming into this series the Phillies are 12th in pitching with a 3.72 ERA and 24th in batting with 269 runs scored this season. It had been nearly a month since the Phillies won back to back games after the victory over the Rockies.
Scott Kingery was able to hit a three-run homer in his last performance and a sacrifice fly ball to rack up 4 RBIs in the game. He made Jon Gray pay for a couple walks in the first inning, taking him deep with two outs to give the Phils an early lead. He has hit .280 with seven doubles, two homers 12 RBIs two stolen bases with a .855 OPS in 54 plates. He is definitely a candidate for rookie of the year this season if he keeps this batting performance up. Kingery is hoping that his hitting numbers at home will translate when the Phillies go on the road.
Pitching for the Phillies will be Jake Arrieta. He wasn’t at his best in Saturday’s loss to the Brewers, allowing four runs on four hits over his 5 1/3 innings. He will have another shot against the Brewers and he is hoping that he can do better second time around. He is now 5-4 on the season with a 2.97 ERA and 1.18 WHIP.
Milwaukee Brewers's Latest Performance :
The Brewers will be capping off their 6 game homestand as they will play against the Phillies in a three-game series. They were able to bounce back against the Cubs after losing the series opener and they responded in a huge way with a shutout win in the second game as they hope to win the rubber game and carry over the momentum when they play the Brewers. The Brewers are 19-12 when playing at home this season. The Brewers are 6th best in the Major in pitching with a 3.53 ERA on the season as Chase Anderson came up clutch in his last performance he pitched seven innings while allowing just one hit making the Brewers the first team in the National Leauge team to reach 40 wins.
Travis Shaw was on fire in his last game, he delivered a pair of two-run doubles in a shutout victory. He got the Brewers on the board with a two-run double off of Tyler Chatwood in the first inning, then replicated the feat in the third to provide additional insurance. He also drew a walk, finishing the night 2-for-3 to raise his season slash to .251/.345/.506 to go with 14 homers and 43 RBI. I expect him to carry over this great hitting performance against the Phillies.
Pitching for the Brewers will be Brent Suter. He has now won four of his last five games. His most recent outing came in Philadelphia, where he got the win and held the Phillies to three runs over five innings, he is hoping to replicate his pitching performance when the Phillies visit Miller Park. He has a 4.61 ERA, 1.24 WHIP.
How Philadelphia Phillies & Milwaukee Brewers Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Brewers are 9-3 in their last 12 home games vs. a team with a winning record.
Phillies are 1-4 in their last 5 when their opponent allows 5 runs or more in their previous game.
Against The Spread Selection: Milwaukee Brewers
My reason for the pick :
The Brewers should be able to take care of the Phillies at home as Arrieta will continue to struggle on the mound against the Brewers on the road. The Phillies after a strong homestand against the Rockies will still can’t figure out why they can’t win on the road. Travis Shaw will lead the way for the Brewers as his team will pick up another win at home as the Brewers will look to pull away from the Cubs in the NL Central division.
Betting trends for Philadelphia Phillies:
- Phillies are 3-7 in their last 10 overall.
Betting trends for Milwaukee Brewers:
- Brewers are 9-3 in their last 12 home games.
