Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Philadelphia Phillies vs Milwaukee Brewers
The Brewers will welcome the Phillies to Miller Park for game 2 of the 3 game series. The Brewers are in the first place of the NL Central and the Phillies are in the 3rd place in the NL East division. This will be their 2nd meeting of the season with the Brewers holding the season series over the Phillies.
Philadelphia Phillies's Latest Performance :
The Phillies will be on a brief 3 game road trip as they will take on the Brewers in 3 game series. The Phillies are 13-19 on the road this season so playing against the Brewers would be a challenge for them as they are having trouble winning on the road this season. Coming into this series the Phillies 12th in pitching with a 3.73 ERA. The Phillies are having trouble generating runs on the board this season as they are ranked 24th in Major with only 269 runs scored this season. Pivetta continues to struggle in June as he is now 0-3 with an 8.36 ERA with 13 earned runs in 14 innings in three starts.
Jorge Alfaro went 1-for-4 and popped a solo home run. He struck his homer off starter Tyler Anderson for the Phillies’ first run of the game in the fifth inning. The former elite catching prospect has yet to live up to the hype. He has a .248 batting average with five home runs and 14 RBI in 51 games.
Jesmuel Valentin went 3-for-4 and cracked a solo home run his first of his career andtwo doubles. It was his fourth start of the season but he is playing like he has been in the starting rotation for quite some time. The team will be hoping that he will be able to keep this batting performance going when the team hit the road.
Pitching for the Phillies will be Zach Eflin. He has picked up two consecutive wins. After scattering eight hits in 7 2/3 innings of one-run ball at Wrigley Field, he tied his career high with nine strikeouts vs. the Brewers on Sunday. He has a 3.63 ERA in four road starts this season.
Milwaukee Brewers's Latest Performance :
The Brewers were able to turn things around after losing the series opener against the Cubs by winning the last two games in the 3 game set securing the series win at home both wins were a shutout. The Brewers extended their lead on top of the division they are now 1 1/2 games ahead of the Cubs. The Brewers will cap off their 6 game homestand by playing against the Phillies in a three-game series. Coming into this series the Brewers are 15th in batting with 290 runs scored this season. The reason why the Brewers are playing so well this season has been because of their pitching they are 5th best in the Major with a 3.47 ERA. Jhoulys Chacin came up huge for the Brewers in the rubber game as he struck out 7 and allowed only 4 hits in 6 scoreless innings.
Lorenzo Cain struck a solo home run giving the Brewers the series win. He reached base three times while supplying two of the Brewers four hits. He also added a stolen base, his 13th of 2018. He has hit safely in seven of his last eight games while boosting his average from .273 to .287. He ranks fourth in the NL in steals with 13, seventh in walks with 39 and 11th in runs scored 40. I expect he should be able to finish this homestand on a good note against the Phillies.
Pitching for the Brewers will be Junior Guerra. He has no-decisions in four of his past five starts, but he consistently keeps the Brewers in the game. He allowed one run over six innings against the Cubs on Monday night but didn’t get a decision. He is hoping to pick up a win against the Phillies at home.
How Philadelphia Phillies & Milwaukee Brewers Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Brewers are 5-1 in their last 6 vs. National League East.
Phillies are 31-72 in their last 103 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600.
Against The Spread Selection: Milwaukee Brewers
My reason for the pick :
The Brewers should be able to pick up a win at home over the Phillies as they will win four games in a row. The Brewers are a solid team at home this season so for the Phillies to beat them at home they will need to bring their A-game to do it and I don’t see it happening considering how well is the Brewers is pitching at home this season, the Brewers are figuring out how to close out games and they don’t allow a lot of runs at home.
The Brewers to beat the Phillies at home.
