San Francisco Giants vs Los Angeles Dodgers

Game 2 of a 3-game NL West set between the San Francisco Giants and the Los Angeles Dodgers will take place at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California, on Saturday night at 8:15 pm EST.  The Giants man the 4th spot within the NL West division while the Dodgers remain in 2nd place within the division.  This will be the 4th meeting of the year amongst these two teams with the Giants winning 6 of the last 10 outings while splitting the last series at Dodger Park on 4-1-2018.

San Francisco Giants's Latest Performance :

The San Francisco Giants come into this matchup losers of 4 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 3-2.  Recently, the Giants would win yet another series win against the Arizona Diamondbacks with a 5-4 win in game 3 on 6-6-2018.  After winning a 3-game road set versus the surging Washington Nationals on 6-10-2018, the Giants would go on to perform miserably against the Marlins in the first 3 games of a 4-game road set versus the Marlins with game 3 being a 5-4 come from behind victory for the Marlins on 6-13-2018.

For the season, the Giants are averaging 4.19 runs per game (20th) with a team batting average of .262 (3rd), 70 homers (19th) along with 27 stolen bases (21st).  Their pitching staff has an ERA of 4.34 (22nd) with 514 strikeouts (26th) along with 23 quality starts (24th).

Brandon Belt (.307 BA on 192 AB) and Buster Posey (.301 BA on 209 AB) have been the most consistent hitters for the Giants this year.  Evan Longoria (.247 BA on 255 AB) has also been solid at the plate for San Francisco.

Chris Stratton (7-4, 75 IP, 40 R, 72 H, 8 HR, 33 BB, 61 SO, 4.56 ERA) has been consistent on the mound for the Giants this season.  On the other hand, Ty Blach (3-5, 68 IP, 39 R, 80 H, 5 HR, 25 BB, 35 SO, 4.63 ERA) has also been solid for the Giants in 2018.

Los Angeles Dodgers's Latest Performance :

The Dodgers come into this matchup winners of 4 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 4-1.  Recently, the Dodgers, in a 3-game road set versus the Pittsburgh Pirates, would get the series win on 6-7-2018 with an 8-7 victory in the finale.  The Dodgers would not only go on to win a 3-game home set versus the Atlanta Braves on 6-10-2018, but, would also sweep a 2-game home set versus the Texas Rangers on 6-12-2018.

The Dodgers average 4.88 runs per game (6th) with a team batting average of .245 (17th), 86 homers (5th), along with 24 stolen bases (26th).  Their pitching staff has an ERA of 3.68 (10th) with 638 strikeouts (4th) along with 25 quality starts (22nd).

Yasmani Grandal (.246 BA on 195 AB), Cody Bellinger (.242 BA on 240 AB), and Corey Seager (.267 BA on 101 AB) have been the leaders offensively for the Dodgers this season.  Chris Taylor (.2521 BA on 258 AB) has also been pivotal to the Dodger’s offensive attack.

Clayton Kershaw (1-4) has pitched 49 innings while allowing 15 runs on 44 hits, 7 homers, 11 walks, and 53 strikeouts with an ERA of 2.76.  Alex Wood (1-5) has pitched 69 innings while allowing 39 runs on 69 hits, 8 homers, 13 walks, and 66 strikeouts with an ERA of 4.43.

How San Francisco Giants & Los Angeles Dodgers Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

For the season, the Giants are 37-30 ATS while the O/U is 34-30-3.  On the other hand, the Dodgers are 30-36 ATS while the O/U is 35-28-3.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

The pitchers for this matchup have not been named, however, while both teams have found ways in which to win lately, their pitching staff has also given up its fair share of runs recently as well.  The Dodgers, in their last 6 games, have given up 33 runs while the Giants surrendered 26 in their last 6.  During this time, the Dodger offense has also been averaging 7.7 runs per game while the Giants have averaged 4.5 runs.  In all, expect this to be a competitive matchup to where runs will indeed be given up by both teams.  With the way in which the Dodgers have been winning recently, they seem to be more than willing/able to endure yet another shootout as they have scored at least 7 runs in 7 of their last 10 games while they also have allowed their opponents to score 5 or more runs in 5 of their last 7 games as well.

Totals Selection: Over

My reason for the prediction :

With both teams playing the way they currently are, the ebb and flow within this game could sway one way or another at any point in time; However, I will take the over to be the play in this contest, overall, because, as stated, the over has been the result for both teams in the past (6-1 (LAD)/5-2 (SF).  In all, both the Giants and Dodger pitching staffs have been inconsistent lately despite their resurgent play recently.  It is for this reason that I will lean towards the over given that both offenses have awoken from their slumber and are beginning to maintain their focus at the plate.
