Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Tampa Bay Rays vs NY Yankees

Game 3 of a 4-game set between the Tampa Bay Rays and the NY Yankees will take place at Yankee Stadium in New York, New York, on Saturday afternoon at 1:05 pm EST.  The Rays currently occupy 3rd place within the AL East while the Yankees are ranked 1st in the division after winning 10 of their last 12 games.  This will be the 2nd meeting of the year amongst these teams with the Yankees winning 2 of 3 at home on 4-4-2018 with game 1 being postponed due to weather conditions.

Tampa Bay Rays's Latest Performance :

The Tampa Bay Rays have won 4 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 3-2.  Recently, the Rays would get swept by the Washington Nationals on the road on 6-6-2018.  They would also go on to lose a 4-game home set versus the Seattle Mariners on 6-10-2018 by suffering the 5-4 defeat in the finale.  The Rays would come out strong in their next series against the lowly Blue Jays by sweeping the 3-game home set on 6-13-2018.

The Rays are averaging 4.07 runs per game (24th) with a team batting average of .255 (7th), 63 homers (26th), along with 37 stolen bases on the year (11th).  Their pitching staff has an ERA of 3.90 (14th) with 556 strikeouts (21st) and 19 quality starts (29th).

Mallex Smith (.294 BA on 204 AB), Joey Wendle (.277 BA on 184 AB) Adeiny Hechavarria (.273 BA on 132 AB) spearhead the offensive attack from the plate for the O’s while C.J. Cron (.251 BA on 251 AB), Matt Duffy (.312 BA on 208 AB), and Denard Span (.238 BA on 143 AB) are also critical to the Baltimore offense.

Blake Snell (8-3) has pitched 82.1 innings this season and allowed 23 runs on 56 hits, 9 homers, 25 walks, and 89 strikeouts with an ERA of 2.30.  Chris Archer (3-4) has pitched 76.1 while allowing 37 runs on 76 hits, 9 homers, 26 walks, 76 strikeouts with an ERA of 4.24 for the season.

NY Yankees 's Latest Performance :

The Yankees have won 3 of their last 5 matchups to where the O/U was 0-5.  Recently, the Yankees would go on to win ‘Subway Series’ 2018 which would be a 3-game set at CitiField on 6-10-2018.  Furthermore, New York would also come out strong in game 1 of a 3-game home set versus the Washington Nationals as they got the 3-0 win on 6-12-2018,  but, would lose game 2 by a 5-4 score.

For the season, the Yankees average 5.39 runs per game (1st) with a team batting average of .252 (11th), 107 home runs (1st), along with 31 stolen bases (17th).  Their pitching staff has an ERA of 3.53 (7th) with 644 strikeouts (3rd), along with 31 quality starts on the season (8th).

Aaron Judge (.272 BA on 232 AB), Didi Gregorius (.246 BA on 228 AB), and Brett Gardner (.262 BA on 221 AB) have been outstanding for the Yankees this year at the plate.  Giancarlo Stanton (.248 BA on 246 AB) and Miguel Andujar (.304 BA on 207 AB) have also been solid at the plate thus far.

On the other hand, Luis Severino (9-2) has pitched 91 innings while allowing 24 runs on 64 hits, 5 homers, 23 walks, and 109 strikeouts with an ERA of 2.27 while  Masahiro Tanaka(7-2) is also an important piece to the Yankee pitching staff as he has pitched 72.2 innings while allowing 39 runs on 60 hits, 16 homers, 19 walks, and 73 strikeouts with an ERA of 4.58.

How Tampa Bay Rays & NY Yankees Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

For the season, the Rays are 37-29 ATS while the O/U is 31-32-3.  On the other hamd, the Yankees are 36-26 ATS while the O/U is 32-28-2.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Luis Severino (9-2) will make his way to the mound after his second loss of the season in the finale of the ‘Subway Series’ 2018 against the Mets.  Despite the 2-0 loss, Severino only gave up 2 runs on 5 hits with 2 walks, 1 homer, and 7 strikeouts in the loss, however, the Yankees offense, which was averaging over 4 runs per game in their last 4 game prior to the finale, was nonexistent during the contest, altogether.  In all, the loss for Severino was the 6th time he gave up 2 or more runs in a start in 10 starts.  It will be interesting to see how Severino rebounds from this setback against a Ray’s lineup that is averaging 5 runs per game in their last 6 contests.

Against The Spread Selection: New York Yankees

My reason for the pick :

I could never pick the Rays to somehow pull out a miracle against this outstanding Yankees squad.  If I were to do this, I would completely ignore Luis Severino, altogether, including the loss that he suffered in his last outing (only his 1st in 11 starts).  The fact is that the Yankees have already begun to rebound from their Subway Series finale and will certainly continue to roll against a Rays team that is only 3-6 in their last 9 road games.  The Yankees, by the way, have shined at home this season going 23-9 in 2018.  Expect their winning percentage to increase slightly after Saturday’s victory.
