Game 3: 4:05 PM ET

Game 4: 1:35 PM ET

Arizona Diamondbacks's Latest Performance :

The D-Backs are starting to find their groove they had to start the season picking up their 40th win of the season as they were able to take the series opener against the Angels. They will now hit the road for their next 8 games as they will take on the Pirates in a four-game series. The D-Backs are back on top of the NL West division with a 2 game lead over the Dodgers, coming into this series the D-Backs are now 13th in batting with 319 runs that is a huge improvement after being ranked 29th after the injury of Pollock. The D-Backs are 5th best in pitching with a 3.55 ERA. They now have won 8 of their last 11 games they are hoping to close things out on the right foot against the Angels and carry over the momentum into the Pirates series.

Player to watch in this series: Paul Goldschmidt, in past 12 games he is hitting .500/.561/1.020 with 6 doubles and a triple. There was one point in time where he was in a slump his batting average was .198. Great players understand that a slump is just part of the game you have to trust your instinct and let the game come to you. In his last performance, he went 1-for-4 with three strikeouts but hit a two-run homer. He also drew his 40th walk of the season. The homer was a two-run shot off of Jaime Barria, and it gives the first baseman 15 homers on the season and 37 RBIs. After a terrible start to the year, the walk and homer have his OPS up to .895 on the season. He should remain hot against the Pirates in the 4 game series.

Team leaders:

  • RBIs: Daniel Descalso (39)
  • Homers: Paul Goldschmidt (15)
  • Batting Average: David Peralta (.277)

Probable Pitchers for this series:

Game 1: Zack Godley, he gave up a pair of earned runs in 6 2/3 innings, notching a win against the Mets. He struck out eight and walked three. Godley, who has been up and down this season, holds a 4.77 ERA over 14 starts.

Game 2: Partick Corbin, he allowed five runs over six innings and picked up the loss vs. the Mets. After a dominant start to the season, the lefty has given up five or more runs in three of his past four starts.

Game 3: Clay Buchholz, he allowed just one earned run, four hits and two walks with three strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Mets on Sunday. He has a 2.94 ERA despite picking up a win in 3 straight starts as he will do all he can to get back into the win column in game 3.

Game 4: Zack Greinke allowed three runs over 6 1/3 innings in a victory over the Angels on Monday. He did allow seven hits, but the damage was limited to two solo homers. He walked two and struck out five in the victory. Greinke will take a 6-5 record over 15 starts and 3.90 ERA to close things out against the Pirates.

Pittsburgh Pirates's Latest Performance :

The Pirates will cap off their 10 game homestand by playing against the D-Backs in a 4 game series. The Pirates are coming off an impressive shutout win over the division leader Brewers. This was the Pirates’ ninth shutout victory of the season. Coming into this series the Pirates are 22nd in pitching with a 4.24 ERA and 9th in batting with 331 runs scored this season. The Pirates are still in the 4th place of the NL Central division with a .500 record of 36-36, the Pirates are a really solid team at home they are 21-16 when playing at home they will be ready when the D-Backs visits PNC Park.

Player to watch in this series: Jordy Mercer should be the player to watch for the Pirates as he was able to drove in three of Pittsburgh’s five runs the last time the Pirates played the D-Backs so he is very familiar with the D-Backs pitchers. He has gone 6-for-12 with a home run, three doubles and five RBI over his four-game hitting streak. He’s lifted his season average from .250 to .264 during that span. He has 4 home runs on the year to go along with 23 RBIs.

Team leaders:

  • RBIs: Josh Bell (36)
  • Homers:  Franciso Cervelli & Gregory Polanco both with 9.
  • Batting Average:  Corey Dickerson (.303)

Probable Pitchers for this series:

Game 1: Ivan Nova, he will be starting for the series opener against the D-backs. The right-hander has gone 2-0 in his last two starts, allowing two earned runs while striking out 11 over 11 2/3 innings.

Game 2: Joe Musgrove, he will return to the mound on Friday looking to bounce back from his shortest start of the season. Last time out against the Reds, the right-hander surrendered six earned runs on eight hits and left the game after 4 1/3 innings of work.

Game 3: Trevor Williams allowed just one hit over seven shutout innings Monday in the Pirates’ 1-0 blanking of the Brewers. He is 6-4 on the season with a 4.00 ERA and 1.22 WHIP.

Game 4: Jameson Taillon, he allowed six hits and two runs over seven innings in his last performance. He has a 3.94 ERA and is 5-5 on the season.

How Arizona Diamondbacks & Pittsburgh Pirates Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Pirates are 4-1 in their last 5 overall.

Diamondbacks are 5-2 in their last 7 games following a win.

Against The Spread Selection: Series split at 2-2

My reason for the pick :

This four-game series will end in a series split as the Pirates and D-Backs will win 2 games apiece, every single game will go down to the wire. Nova will be able to win against the Godley in the series opener but then the D-Backs take game 2 right back courtesy of Corbin. Game 3 will go to the Pirates as Williams should be able to take control of the mound and pick up the win against Clay. In the rubber game, Zack should be able to close things off for the D-Backs.

Goldschmidt will have his moments in this four-game series but him alone won’t be able to beat out the Pirates pitchers.

Betting trends for Arizona Diamondbacks:

  • Diamondbacks are 5-0 in their last 5 road games.

Betting trends for Pittsburgh Pirates:

  • Pirates are 5-11 in their last 16 vs. a team with a winning record.
