Chicago Cubs vs Cincinnati Reds

The Reds will welcome the Cubs to the Great American Ball Park as the two teams will go head to head in a 4 game series starting Thursday. The Cubs are now on top of the NL Central division while the Reds are in the last place. This will be their 3rd meeting of the year.

Game 1&2: 7:10 PM ET

Game 3: 4:10 PM ET

Game 4: 1:10 PM ET

Chicago Cubs 's Latest Performance :

The Cubs have finally regained the top spot of the NL Central division, the Cubs will now hit the road as they will be playing the next 8 games away from home. The first series matchup will be against the Reds in a 4 game series. The Cubs are 2nd best pitching team in the Majors with an ERA of 3.19, the team’s great pitchers are starting to get rewarded after a rough start to the year and in terms of batting the Cubs are 6th best in batting with 337 runs scored this season. They will have a great opportunity to pull away from the pack with the 4 game series against the Reds. The Cubs are 21-15 when playing on the road this season.

Player to watch in this series: Kris Bryant, I expect him to catch fire in this series against the Reds as he recently ended his homerless streak playing against a bad team like the Reds will give him the opportunity to build on a hitting streak and the Reds seems to be the perfect matchup for him at this time. He will start as the leadoff hitter in the series I have no doubt in my mind that he will play well on the road against the Reds. He is slashing .281/.389/.483 with 33 RBIs and 9 homers.

Team leaders:

  • RBIs: Javier Baez and Anthony Rizzo both have 46 RBIs
  • Homers: Javier Baez (14)
  • Batting Average: Albert Almora (.325)

Probable Pitchers for this series:

Game 1: John Lester, he won his fourth straight road start in his last outing, giving up two runs over six innings against the Cardinals in St. Louis. He’s given up eight hits over 20 innings in his past three starts.

Game 2: Kyle Hendricks, he ended a personal three-game losing streak with a win Saturday. The goal now may be to get through the first without giving up a homer. He’s served up 14 homers this year, seven in the first. He did not get a decision vs. the Reds on May 19 he will get a chance to redeem himself in game 2.

Game 3: Alec Mills, he is projected to make his first start in game 3 against the Reds he pitched five shutout innings for Triple-A Iowa on Sunday.

Game 4: Mike Montgomery, he gave up two hits and one run over six innings Wednesday in the Cubs’ loss to Milwaukee.

Cincinnati Reds's Latest Performance :

The Reds will cap off their 6 game homestand by playing against the division leaders Cubs in a 4 game series, they are now in the last place of the division with a record of 26-45, at this point of the season the Reds are heading into a full build the chances are very low for the Reds to turn things around at this point of the season as they trail the leader Cubs by 15 1/2 games. The Reds have one of the worst home records in the Majors they are 11-23 when playing at home this season. Coming into this series the Reds are 20th in batting with 301 runs scored this season and 27th in pitching with an ERA of 4.88.

Player to watch in this series: Eugenio Suarez, he is the leader of this Reds team and he will do all he can to lead this Reds team to a home victory over the Cubs, he went 1-for-5 with a two-run homer in his last performance. He now has 14 homers on the season and his hitting  .297/.384/.569. He missed a couple of weeks while on the disabled list. He’s also homered in back-to-back games, and his hitting streak extends to eight. He is the player that would cause the most problem for the Cubs when they visit so Suarez must be ready for the challenge.

Team leaders:

  • RBIs: Eugenio Suarez (52)
  • Homers: Eugenio Suarez (14)
  • Batting Average: Scooter Gennett (.336)

Probable Pitchers for this series:

Game 1: Matt Harvey, he gave up three runs over five-plus Friday to the Pirates, with none of the runs coming via hits. In the second, his tempo slowed and he labored. But he retired 10 of 11 batters before the sixth. The Reds have lost each of his last four starts.

Game 2: Luis Castillo, he is 0-4 with a 6.97 ERA in his last four starts and has given up more homers. He allowed two Saturday to the Pirates and has allowed 17 for the season to lead the NL.

Game 3: Anthony DeSclafani, he allowed two runs over 5 2/3 innings in a victory over the Pirates on Sunday. He is 2-1 on the season with a 4.60 ERA.

Game 4: Sal Romano, he was charged with a no-decision against the Royals on Tuesday, allowing just one run on four hits over his eight innings of work. He owns a 5.67 ERA and 1.48 WHIP on the season.

How Chicago Cubs & Cincinnati Reds Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Reds are 19-40 in their last 59 games vs. a right-handed starter.

Cubs are 14-6 in their last 20 overall.

Against The Spread Selection: Chicago Cubs

My reason for the pick :

The Cubs will beat the Reds in a series sweep, as the Reds proves to be no match against the Cubs. The teams are not well matched as the Cubs victories on the road will be lopsided as the Cubs should be able to beat the Reds with ease, in their last meeting the Cubs were able to shutout the Reds by putting up 10 runs. It goes to show that the Cubs have already figured out a way to breeze through the Reds and I expect that trend to continue as the 4 game series is over.

Cubs to sweep the series against the Reds on the road 4-0.

Betting trends for Chicago Cubs :

  • Cubs are 20-8 in their last 28 games vs. a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30.

Betting trends for Cincinnati Reds:

  • Reds are 11-29 in their last 40 home games.
