Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Detroit Tigers vs Cincinnati Reds
The Reds will welcome the Tigers to Great American Ball Park as the two teams will go head to head in an interleague two-game series starting Tuesday. The Reds are in the last place of the NL Central while the Tigers are in the 2nd place of the AL Central. This will be their first meeting of the season.
Game 1 starts at 7:10 PM ET
Game 2 starts 12:10 PM ET
Detroit Tigers's Latest Performance :
The Tigers are on the verge of sweeping the White Sox as they will get ready to play the Reds in a 2 game series. They are on a 4 game winning streak. The Tigers are currently sitting in 2nd place of the AL Central division they are 2 1/2 games behind the division leader Indians. The Tigers will have a chance to close the gap with the two-game series against the Reds. Coming into this series the Tigers are 16th in batting with 302 runs scored this season and 21st in pitching with an ERA of 4.24. The Tigers are not a great team on the road this season they are 12-20, they have won 4 in a row and looks to keep that trend going heading into the series against the Reds.
Player to Watch in this series: Nicholas Castellanos will have a huge impact in the Reds series as he blasted a pair of home runs in his last outing. He opened the scoring in the ballgame with a three-run blast off of White Sox’ starter Lucas Giolito in the third inning. He added onto that advantage his next time up, tagging Giolito for a two-run shot in the fifth inning. He also singled, finishing the day 3-for-5 to raise his season slash to .310/.351/.493 to go along with eight homers and 39 RBIs. With only 2 1/2 games behind the Indians, it is a great opportunity for the Tigers to get back in the picture since they are on a roll at the moment.
Probable Pitchers for the series:
Game 1: Francisco Liriano. He is looking to make his return from his hamstring injury. The lefty is 3-2 on the season with a 3.90 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 45/29 K/BB ratio in 57 innings this season.
Game 2: Michael Fulmer. He pitched well in Thursday’s victory over the Twins, scattering five hits over seven innings of one-run. He has a 4.13 ERA and 1.26 WHIP this season as he looks to close things out for the Tigers.
Cincinnati Reds's Latest Performance :
The Reds will be back at the Great American Ball Park for a 6 game homestand beginning Tuesday. The homestand opens with a two-game series against the Tigers. The Reds finished their 5 game road trip 2-3 winning two in a row against the Royals and losing 3 straight to the Pirates. The Reds are hoping to turn things around when they come home. It has been a bad season for the Reds this year they are currently in the last place of the NL Central division with a record of 25-35. Coming into this series the Reds are 27th in pitching with a 4.87 ERA and 19th in batting with 293 runs scored this season. Even though the Reds were able to sweep the Royals but they stand no chance against the Pirates. It will be tough series for the Reds when they welcome the Tigers, they are currently on a 4 game winning streak.
Player to watch in this series: Eugenio Suarez, he went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk. He came through with a solo home run off Ivan Nova in the second inning. That would end up being his only hit of the contest. For the season as a whole, the third baseman is working to a crisp .299/.388/.563 triple-slash with 13 home runs and 50 RBI over the course of 53 games played. He’s got a seven-game hitting streak going right now he will do all he can to extend his hitting streak in the series with the Tigers.
Probable Pitchers for the series:
Game 1: Sal Romano. He is coming off of the best start of his season: eight innings of one-run ball for a no-decision on Tuesday at KC. He had his sinker working well and induced a lot of contact and grounders. It was exactly the confidence boost he needed.
Game 2: Tyler Mahle. He tied a career-high with 6 1/3 IP in a 7-0 win in KC on Wednesday. His four-seamer was located well and he induced two inning-ending double plays.
How Detroit Tigers & Cincinnati Reds Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Reds are 18-37 in their last 55 after allowing 5 runs or more in their previous game.
Tigers are 21-44 in their last 65 road games vs. a right-handed starter.
Against The Spread Selection: Detroit Tigers
My reason for the pick :
Despite the Tigers having trouble on the road, I don’t see them having a problem against the Reds as the Tigers clearly has the momentum on their side winning four straight as for the Reds they will be coming into this series losing 3 straight games. However, this series will end in a 1-1 split because Romano is controlling the mound in the first game and he is going up against Liriano who has just returned from the DL list. Mahle should win game 2 for the Tigers with ease.
Series Prediction: The Tigers and the Reds will both win a game in this interleague 2 game series.
