Oakland Athletics vs Chicago White Sox
The Oakland Athletics are in town on Thursday night to take on the Chicago White Sox in the first of a four-game series at Guaranteed Rate Field. The last time these two team clashed in Oakland back in April, the A’s swept the series handily with the exception of an extra-innings game to wrap up the sweep.
Game 1 will feature Oakland’s Chris Bassitt (0-2, 2.45 ERA) vs. Lucas Giolito (4-7, 7.19 ERA). Game 2 will feature Oakland’s Sean Manaea (6-6, 3.56 ERA) vs. James Shields (2-8, 4.63 ERA). Game 3 will feature Oakland’s Daniel Mengden (6-6, 4.06 ERA) vs. Dylan Covey (3-2, 2.90 ERA). The final game of the series will feature Oakland’s Paul Blackburn (1-1, 11.05 ERA) vs. Chicago’s Carlos Rodon (0-1, 3.06 ERA) who is looking for his first win this season.
Oakland Athletics's Latest Performance :
The Oakland Athletics are on a roll and are looking to extend their winning streak and put some pressure on not only the Angels, but the Mariners as well who are currently ten games ahead of the A’s. With their issues mounting with starting pitchers, the A’s might be making some phone calls down to Triple-A for some much-needed help from the likes of Bobby Wahl and J.B. Wendelken.
As the All-Star game approaches, the somewhat average A’s will be playing a lot of games away from home which could jeopardize there slim hopes of a playoffs spot and keep them deep in a whole they can’t get out of.
Chicago White Sox's Latest Performance :
The Chicago White Sox are sitting two games ahead of the last-place Royals in what has been considered a disappointing season thus far. Granted they are in a rebuilding year and are expected to lose a lot of games. They are on a 5-game skid heading into their series with the A’s while Oakland has won their last two. Despite their awful record, they have played decently at home in non-division games especially if the underdog.
The White Sox are looking to duplicate the rebuilding success the Royals had a couple of years ago as well as the surging Houston Astro’s. Time will tell.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:
The A’s come into this series with some confidence and some swagger since taking the last series. It’s not in the Colesium, but expect them to come out firing and attempt to make a move on the struggling Angels who are a game and a half ahead. The White Sox have been swept in multiple series this season, but it shouldn’t happen here. Look for the Sox to take at least one game in this series to try and save face. The chance of them actually winning this series is probably about zero.
Game three if probably Chicago’s best chance at a win. Covey is one of their better pitchers and Oakland’s Daniel Megden has been inconsistent all season going 6-6. If he’s a little off, the Sox should be able to generate some offense to win the game.
