36-36 vs San Diego Padres
The Oakland Athletics visit the San Diego Padres at Petco Park late Tuesday night to kick-off a 2-game series of AL and NL West teams. The Padres will start lefty Eric Lauer (3-4, 6.20 ERA) against righty Paul Blackburn (1-1, 11.05 ERA) in the teams’ first meeting this season The Padres have dropped their last two while the Athletics managed to take their last two and will look to continue that win streak against the Padres.
Neither team is a threat for first place in their respective divisions and are several games back. The Padres currently sit in last place and the Athletics maintain a firm hold on fourth place behind the Los Angeles Angels who they recently took two out three from in their series.
36-36's Latest Performance :
The Oakland Athletics are playing similar baseball. They did, however, manage to steal two of three games against the Los Angeles Angels who they trail by two games in the AL West. They are in desperate need of pitchers. They have lost more than a full rotation worth by June and are the brink of running out of starting pitchers. Luckily for them, they have a couple of aces in the hole decimating batters in Triple-A Nashville. Look for a new host of pitchers to be called up to try and save the day.
San Diego Padres's Latest Performance :
The Padres are 5-5 in their last ten games and have struggled this season to generate solid offense coupled with a consistent bullpen. In their latest series against the NL East-leading Atlanta Braves, the Braves pitchers combined for a no-hitter on Sunday which ended in the 7th inning when Corey Spangengberg hit a single in an attempt to get things rolling. That attempt would fall short as the Padres lost 4-1. The Braves took three of four in the series ending San Diego’s streak of winning five straight series.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:
The Oakland Athletics are the better team here but like many teams in MLB this season, wins are difficult to string together. There isn’t an unbeatable team no matter what anyone’s record is. This series, while at home for San Diego, is up for grabs. The Padres are in last place for a reason in a fairly weak division. The race is actually fairly tight, but Oakland is on a win streak that should continue if their starting pitchers can get off to a good start and pitch into later innings. Their bullpen can handle the rest.
