San Diego Padres 's Latest Performance :
The Padres will begin their 7 game road trip as they prepare to take on the division rivals Giants in a four-game series. The Padres are currently in the last place of the division with a record of 34-40 and they are 16-19 when playing on the road this season. Coming into this series the Padres are 17th in pitching with a 4.09 ERA and 25th in batting with 283 runs scored this season. The Padres have trouble scoring runs when runners are in a scoring position this is why they can’t seem to close out games this season, they were 2 on with no outs in the 9th inning in their last game but failing to score. When playing the Giants they are hoping to create another series win streak as their last streak ended at 5.
Player to watch in this series: Jose Pirela, after he hit his first two-run homer of the season he collected another RBIs in his next games. He should be a factor in the 4 game series against the Giants. He is hitting a modest .274/.326/.361 with one home run and 22 RBI in 73 games. He’s picked up 17 doubles already this season. The thing with the Padres this year they really have much offense to choose from and this makes it hard for them to compete against the top teams in the Majors that is filled with talented batters.
- RBIs: Christian Villanueva (36)
- Home runs: Christian Villanueva (15)
- Batting Average: Eric Hosmer (.284)
Probable Pitchers for this series:
Game 1: Clayton Richard, he improved to 6-6 on the year after holding the Braves to two runs over six innings on Friday.
Game 2: Jordan Lyles, he allowed just one run on five hits over seven innings in Saturday’s loss to the Braves. He has given up a total of 23 runs over his previous five outings. He owns a 4.46 ERA and 1.28 WHIP.
Game 3: Matt Strahm allowed just one hit over 2 2/3 innings with five strikeouts in a start against the Braves on Sunday.
Game 4: Joey Lucchesi, he could make his return in the rubber game against the Giants. He has 3.23 ERA, 1.225 WHIP, and 48/15 K/BB ratio through his first 47 1/3 major league innings.
San Francisco Giants's Latest Performance :
The Giants are currently on a 10 game homestand they are 19-12 when playing at home this season but they can’t seem to figure out the Marlins they just recently lost to them a week ago and lost the series opener as well. The Giants lost their first game of the season when leading after the 8th innings. Now the Giants prepare to take on an easier matchup the Padres in a 4 game series. Coming into this series the Giants are ranked 19th in batting with 298 runs scored this season and 20th in pitching a 4.16 ERA. The Giants now trail the D-Backs 5 1/2 games playing against the Padres will definitely help the Giants trim the lead up top.
Player to watch in this series: Pablo Sandoval, he hit a two-run homer, he has been on a roll for the Giants lately picking up 6 RBIs in the last 5 games that he played. He should have a major impact on the series against the Padres. In his last game, he took Caleb Smith deep in the second inning, and the homer gives him six on the season. He continues a strong season for the Giants, and he’s now slashing .271/.340/.457 with a .783 OPS in 58 games.
- RBIs: Evan Longoria (34)
- Home runs: Brandon Belt (12)
- Batting Average: Brandon Crawford (.315)
Probable Pitchers for this series:
Game 1: Madison Bumgarner, he allowed three runs over six innings in a loss Saturday against the Dodgers. He’s now 0-2 with a 4.67 ERA and 1.38 WHIP through three starts this year
Game 2: Chris Stratton he allowed one unearned run with three hits and a walk over six innings in a road win Sunday against the Dodgers. He has won six of his eight decisions over nine outings since the start of May.
Game 3: Andrew Suarez, he gave up just two runs in 6 1/3 innings with seven strikeouts in a no-decision against the Marlins on Monday. He owns a 4.70 ERA and is 2-4 on the season.
Game 4: Jeff Samardzija should rejoin the team after allowing just one hit over three shutout innings in the Minor he should be ready to go in game 4.
How San Diego Padres & San Francisco Giants Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Giants are 6-0 in their last 6 home games vs. a right-handed starter.
Padres are 6-1 in their last 7 after scoring 2 runs or less in their previous game.
Against The Spread Selection: San Francisco Giants
My reason for the pick :
The Giants should be able to take care of business at home against the Padres in the 4 game series although it might not be a series sweep I am predicting a 3-1 series win for the Giants at home. The reason why I have the Giants winning this series is because of the lack of Padres offense this season, they won’t be able to score that much in this series against the Giants and this will be costly to them because it will be hard for them to win on the road against a solid home team like the Giants.
Betting trends for San Diego Padres :
- Padres are 9-3 in their last 12 games vs. a right-handed starter.
Betting trends for San Francisco Giants:
- Giants are 7-2 in their last 9 home games.
