Philadelphia Phillies's Latest Performance :
The Phillies will begin their 6 game road trip against the division rivals the Nationals, the Phillies are 4 1/2 games back of the division leader Braves. It has been an up and down season for the Phillies there are stretches during the season where they look unbeatable and there are times where they can’t seem to beat anyone right now the Phillies are lacking is consistency if they are able to figure out that they could become the potential dark horse in the postseason. Coming into this series the Phillies are 19th in scoring with 308 runs scored this season and 14th in pitching with a 3.94 ERA but they have one of the best bullpens in the Majors. The Phillies are 15-20 when playing on the road this season.
Player to watch in this series: Odubel Herrera, he has been one of the best players for the Phillies this season he will have to play at his best on the road for Phillies to have a chance against the Nationals. He is on a homer streak as he homered for the third day in a row. He has been in a horrible slump but has now gone deep four times over his last five contests and has 10 hits over his last six games, he should be able to continue this trend on the road against the Nationals. His line this is season is .292/.349/.472 with 40 RBIs and 11 homers.
- RBIs: Rhys Hoskins (41)
- Homers: Odubel Herrera and Carlos Santana both have 11
- Batting Average: Odubel Herrera (.292)
Probable Pitchers for this series:
Game 1: Zack Eflin, he has been on a serious roll. He has a 1.93 ERA in his last three starts, striking out 17 and walking only three in 18 2/3 innings. Eflin is getting plenty of swings and misses, he will look to continue this trend in the series opener.
Game 2: Aaron Nola, he allowed four runs in 4 1/3 innings Sunday against the Brewers, just the second time this season he has allowed more three runs. He owns a 2.55 ERA with 94 strikeouts in 95 1/3 innings and with the way he is pitching he has earned a spot on the All-Star team this season.
Game 3: Nick Pivetta, he rebounded from an 8.36 ERA in three June starts to pitch with some of the best stuff of his career Monday against the Cardinals. He generated 11 of 21 whiffs with his curveball and struck out a career-high 13 in 7 1/3 innings. He has a 4.08 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and 94/22 K/BB ratio in 79 1/3 innings (15 starts) this season.
Washington Nationals's Latest Performance :
The Nationals will cap off their 7 game homestand as they will take on the Phillies in a 3 game series. The Nationals are now 3 1/2 games behind the Braves because they have won just 1 of their last 5 games, they will need to turn things around quickly they were just on top of the division a week ago, that is how fast a baseball series can do affect your standings in the division. Coming into this series the Nationals are 4th best in pitching with a 3.43 ERA, the Nationals must do a better job on the plate as they are ranked 21st in the Major with 306 runs this season. The Nationals are 17-17 when playing at home this season.
Player to watch in this series: Trea Turner, he had a monster night at the plate in his last performance he went 4-for-4 with a solo home run in the Nationals’ win. He should remain hot when the Phillies come to town, his homer was the only hit the Nats had through the first four innings. The shortstop led off the fifth with a single and Washington’s offense got to work after that, ultimately totaling 14 hits and nine runs. Turner’s home run was his eighth on the season. He is slashing .267/.349/.407 with 26 RBIs. He is starting to heat up for the Nationals.
- RBIs: Bryce Harper (44)
- Homers: Bryce Harper (19)
- Batting Average: Anthony Rendon (.277)
Probable Pitchers for this series:
Game 1: Tanner Roark, he gave up eight hits and four runs over four innings in no-decision on against the Blue Jays on Sunday. He now owns a 3.87 ERA on the season and a 1.18 WHIP over his 72 1 / 3 innings.
Game 2: Erick Fedde, he allowed three earned runs over 5 1/3 innings Monday in a loss to the Yankees. He also allowed two walks and gave up seven hits and he has been winless ever since he had been called up to the Majors he is now 0-2.
Game 3: Jefry Rodriguez, he struggled in his first major league start Tuesday, yielding five runs over five frames in the Nationals’ 9-7 victory over the Orioles he will get another shot in the rubber game against the Phillies.
How Philadelphia Phillies & Washington Nationals Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Nationals are 1-4 in their last 5 overall.
Phillies are 4-1 in their last 5 vs. a team with a winning record.
Against The Spread Selection: Philadelphia Phillies
My reason for the pick :
The Phillies will be able to win this 3 game series on the road against the Nationals. They will win the first 2 games of the series and end up losing the rubber game this will be a fantastic series win for the Phillies considering how bad they are on the road this season. The reason why I select the Phillies to win this series 2-1 is because of their pitching with Nola and Eflin on the mound in the first two games you can’t really bet against them and consider how well the Phillies bullpen is this year despite the hiccup I think they can pull off an upset on the road against their division rivals Nationals.
Betting trends for Philadelphia Phillies:
- Phillies are 6-0 in their last 6 games vs. a right-handed starter.
Betting trends for Washington Nationals:
- Nationals are 9-4 in their last 13 home games vs. a right-handed starter.
