Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
San Diego Padres vs Texas Rangers
The Rangers will welcome the Padres to Globe Life Park as the two teams will go head to head in an interleague 3 game series starting Monday. The Rangers are in the last place of the AL West division while the Padres are in the last place of the NL West. This will be their first meeting of the season.
All three games will be played at 8:05 PM ET.
San Diego Padres 's Latest Performance :
The Padres will cap off their 7 game road trip as they will be playing the Rangers in a 3 game set, the Padres are still in the last place of the NL West division with a record of 35-43 on the season. The Padres were able to stop the 5 game skid with an impressive win over the division rivals Giants. Coming into this series the Padres are 24th in scoring with 295 runs scored this season and 17th in pitching with a 4.11 ERA. It hasn’t been a great season for the Padres so far but they still got time to turn this season around if they are able to pile up the wins in the month of June. The Padres are 17-20 when playing on the road this year, they will have to be on their A game to stop the momentum that the Rangers are currently riding.
Player to watch in this series: Manuel Margot, he went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, a run scored and two RBI in Friday’s 6-2 victory in San Francisco. That’s three consecutive multi-hit games for Margot, who has improved his average from .217 to .245 just since June 11. He is hitting .357 (20-for-56) with six doubles since flipping the calendar from May to June. He will look to have an impact in the Rangers series as the Padres will be looking to end this road trip on the right foot.
- RBIs: Christain Villanueva (37)
- Homers: Christain Villanueva (16)
- Batting Average: Eric Hosmer (.277)
Probable Pitchers for this series:
Game 1: Joey Lucchesi, he allowed four runs over 1 2/3 innings. Still, he felt no effects from his right hip strain and should be extended well beyond the 51 pitches he threw vs. the A’s. He owns a respectable 3.86 ERA he is 3-3 on the year not bad for the rookie pitcher.
Game 2: Tyson Ross, he returns to Texas, where he struggled year before being released in September. The Padres signed him to a Minors deal in December, and he’s been their best pitcher since. Ross has allowed three earned runs or fewer in eight straight starts. He has a 3.34 ERA, 1.18 WHIP.
Game 3: Clayton Richard, he allowed two earned runs, three hits, and walks with four strikeouts over six innings in a win against the Giants. He is 7-6 on the season with a 4.23 ERA.
Texas Rangers's Latest Performance :
The Rangers will return home for an 8 game homestand starting on Monday, the Rangers are currently on a six-game win streak, they now have a record of 33-44 which is still the last place of the AL West but they have shown promises of trying to make a run. The Rangers are not a good home team this season they are 15-24 when playing at home this season. The Rangers starters are 4-0 with a 2.89 ERA in their last 6 starts the Rangers have definitely caught fire in their last 6 games scoring 39 runs in total. They are hoping to keep this winning streak alive when they welcome the Padres to play in a 3 game series.
Player to watch in this series: Shin-Soo Choo, he finished 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, a walk, two runs scored and three RBI in Friday’s 8-1 win at Minnesota. He has hit safely in six straight, going 9-for-24 (.375) with a double, two homers and five RBI during the impressive span, raising his average from .271 to .280 since June 15. He was able to extend his on-base streak to 35 consecutive games with the two-run shot in the fifth inning off of reliever Fernando Romero. I expect him to be a challenge for the Padres when they visit Globe Life Park.
- RBIs: Nomar Mazara (47)
- Homers: Joey Gallo (18)
- Batting Average: Shin-Soo Choo (.280)
Probable Pitchers for this series:
Game 1: Cole Hamels, he is 3-3 with a 2.81 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP in his past 10 starts. Opponents are hitting .206 off him in that stretch. He is 9-2 with a 2.25 ERA in 17 career starts against the Padres.
Game 2: Austin Bibens-Dirkx, he was called up from Triple-A and allowed one run over 6 2/3 innings in a 3-2 win over the Royals. He did not strike out a batter. He has a 4.58 ERA as he will start on Tuesday.
Game 3: Mike Minor, he is 2-0 with a 2.84 ERA in his last three starts after holding the Twins to one run over six innings on Friday night. He is 3-2 with a 3.94 ERA in eight starts at home. He is 1-3 with a 5.55 ERA in five career outings against the Padres.
How San Diego Padres & Texas Rangers Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Rangers are 4-0 in their last 4 after scoring 5 runs or more in their previous game.
Padres are 17-37 in their last 54 road games vs. a team with a losing record.
Against The Spread Selection: Texas Rangers
My reason for the pick :
The Rangers should be able to take care of the Padres at home as I predict a 2-1 series victory for the Rangers at home. Choo on-base streak will still be alive as he is bound to put up big hitting numbers in this series. The momentum is clearly on the Rangers side and the level of confidence that the Rangers are currently playing at right now is at an all-time high and I don’t see the Padres being the one stopping them. With the way the Rangers are currently playing they have given themselves a glimpse of light at the end of the tunnel.
Betting trends for San Diego Padres :
- Padres are 9-19 in their last 28 when their opponent scores 2 runs or less in their previous game.
Betting trends for Texas Rangers:
- Rangers are 5-0 in their last 5 games vs. a right-handed starter.
